    Hi,

I live in a Town home in Southern Walk..The Evergreen they had planted initially totally dried out (along with my neighbor's) & they replaced it for us in the 11 month inspection - done 6-7 months ago. Now again, I'm faced with the SAME ISSUE (the same with my neighbor's tree too) -TOTALLY DRIED OUT TREE. I do not do anything out of the way...Its very strange and I do not want to be laden with a dried out tree every 4 months...What do I do?

    Thanks in Advance.

Dead trees on your property can be removed. It is the homeowners decision if they wish to replace the tree with the same variety or to replace it all. Given last year's drought conditions, perhaps if you contact the builder, they will agree to replace it once more. Maintenance of landscaping on your property is the responsibility of the owner, so if it is replaced by the builder the owner must water it. Please note, only dead trees can be removed without an application to the Modifications Subcommittee.

Just a note - I live on a block of these SW townhomes, some with dried-out junipers and some with apparently healthy ones. I did notice that many of the ones that are dried out this year, have in previous years had bad infestations of bagworms. I don't know if that's what happened to you, but something to keep in mind. I didn't even know what these were until I saw them mentioned on these forums....

If you do choose to have the juniper replaced, keep an eye out for the bagworms. It took me the better part of a day to clean them all out of my tree last year. Happy to share my method, but I got it from another forum thread here so you could just search for the Bagworm discussion thread.... Or, Google.

(Or, don't replace the tree with another juniper -- get a tree that bagworms aren't attracted to....)

    Good luck!

    Maureen,

One of the forum members has mentioned that the dead tree could be because of BAG WORMS (since its happened twice within a 1 year span to just 2 houses in the block, I'm sure that could be the reason) Can you please let me know whether the HOA landscaping crew could help me with the tree removal.

    Thanks!

youwe - as the tree died within the year, it should be very easy to remove as the roots probably did not gain much of a "root-hold".

If you cannot get assistance, simply take a shovel and dig in completely around the root ball and you should be able to pretty much lift it out.

As our contract with HLS calls for commercial work only, I can't offer any help on private property. However you might want to check the Helpers List in the newsletter to see if one of the yard helpers might be able to assist you.
