We are new to the community, so we don't have any experience with the pools. I was speaking with someone this morning who said that based on her experience last year, flotation devices of any sort are not allowed for small children in the pools. [V]

In the package recently received from the HOA, however, it says, "Non-swimming children. . .must be within arms reach of parent/guardian and must wear an appropriate flotation device. . . Please see a lifeguard or the pool manager for which flotation devices are approved. No child may be in the water in a life preserver or water-wings unless accompanied by an adult who is physically in the water with the child."

So... I'm confused. Is something like THIS allowed:

I'm not sure who the pool manager is?!

I'm not sure what the official rule is; but, we used a float like that last year with this caveat: we were either in the baby pool or it was break in the big pool.

Basically, it's not the kid in the float that is the concern but that floats can block the lifeguard's view of the bottom of the pool where another child might be in trouble.

We used the same thing last year with no problems. We are planning to use it again this year.

I believe the pool committee is working on a publication to help identify to residents what are and are not allowed in the pools. Some types are allowed, but not others.

rharse Hi my name is Staci Kapinos and I am the pool liason here in the community. The information that you have that we do not allow any flotation devices is incorrect. If it is coast gard approved we allow it plus a few other items such as water wings. Flynnibus is right we are working on a flyer with what is and is not allowed but there are so many pool things out there it makes it hard. An easy rule is if you blow it up (water wings is the exception to this) it is not allowed in the main pool. The item that you linked to would not be allowed in the main pools with the exception of break time (ie adult swim)if your child is under age 1. I do not know if this answeres your question or confuses you more but if you or anyone has a question about the pools please feel free to contact me via email ssdkapinos@yahoo.com or phone 703 723 1984 and I will be happy to answere your questions.
    Staci

I was hoping to have received more information/guidelines by now, but we have not. (We did receive our pool passes.) Can anyone tell me what I CAN use in the pools for my 22- and 5-month old?
