four way stop signs are crutches for other weaknesses

this road does not have enough traffic to require traffic to stop to allow cross traffic through.

That isn't the point. It may not have a lot of traffic but it does have very poor visibility, which max crossing a lucky guess. Even for those of us that come to complete stops.

    Staci

Like I said 'crutches for other weaknesses"

Fix the intersection's visbility rather then just put a band-aid on it. But you know it will never happen.. maybe someone should sue the state for building such dangerous or deficient intersection designs to pay for it.

VDOT is gong to close Ashburn rd between faulkner and what is left of shelhorn there.

Is the intersection bad due to the terrain - yes. Should we spend $100k to regrade the entire area ? I think a $100 stop sign is a much better use of funds.

4-Way Stop is now at Ashburn Rd & Faulkner Pkwy. It's about time! Hopefully this will become a traffic light one day but I'll take this for now.

Man, you're not kidding. Crutches or whatever, but I've seen too many close calls (and accidents for that matter). I'll go so far as to say that I had a close call there, and I consider myself a good driver. Life is short, but one more stop sign is not that big of a deal.

I feel MORE comfortable going that way now.
And it's much shorter to stop, pause, and go...rather than stop and wait for traffic to clear on Ashburn Rd. I give the stop signs two thumbs up!

which is why I support stricter driver testing and higher standards instead of the idea of passing out drivers licenses like halloween candy like we do today.

The weakness I was referring to in the post tho was generally the traffic design of the intersection and road planning.

This route was still the best when heading west during rush hour to avoid the 4 way stop backup.

I agree and FWIW, having a stop sign (whether its one or four) isn't going to work either because people are still going to go right through it when there's no enforcement to back it up. I have seen it time and time again. I think stoplights trump the stop signs.
