In the Friday, April 20, 2007 edition of the Washington Business Journal (WBJ) it was reported that Buchanan Management's Arcola Center could break ground late summer 2007. Loudoun County's BOS and planning commission have to finalize approvals for the Arcola Center. The following "big box" stores have finally signed on for the planned $1 billion mixed-used development.

Lowes, Target, ****'s Sporting Goods, and T.J. Maxx are signed so far. Plans show a Walmart Supercenter is also being considered--no word from Walmart yet. Buchanan plan calls for 1220 residental units and "Main Street" style retail in a village setting.

Three other developers in the Route 50 corridors also have intent to build mixed-used communites. Route 606 and Route 50 junctures are the sites.

    1. Beatty Management is planning a 725,000 square foot retail development
    at Routes 50 and 606.

    2. Across from Beatty, Diamond Properties is progressing with a 300,000
square foot retail complex called Avonlea Plaza that will include a 14-
screen movie theatre based out of Atlanta. Company is called American
    Screenworks.

    3. Equinox Properties is awaiting Loudoun County's approval for its proposed
expansion that will be worth $20 million that will expand Route 50. East
Gate will include 600 residential units and 160,000 square feet of retail
space. Harris Teeter grocery store will anchor the retail portion. Office
space will be 60,000 square feet and Wachovia and Chevy Chase Banks.
Also, Equinox is awaiting approval to build a 220-room Sheraton Hotel at
    East Gate.

The FULL article is on page 7 from this week's edition of the WBJ. No story online that I could locate.
Also, near South Riding, a Home Depot is planned near Arcola Center. Looks like Barbara's area is "booming" and having "growing pains". At least, some of the "other plans" fell through for now.

Web sites are for Arcola Center info--
