We use Verizon and are really happy with the coverage and the rates. Jerry Edmonds at Easco Wireless in the Farm by Nagoya, The Little Gym and The Giant is really great and knows everything about the plans, accessories, phones and cellular life in general. He also supports our community and has been a sponsor of Broadlands Live for many years. A really great guy with a great family and if you can patronize his business that would be fantastic.

ps - whenever anyone uses a business that you have seen sponsor Broadlands activities, please mention to them that you appreciate it. They need to know that we want to help them too!

Verizon has the best coverage by far, but what price to pay. I was a customer for several years and ended up paying a penalty to cancel my contract and move providers. Their customer service is horrendous, their pricing is extortion, and their technology typically lags the rest of the market by 2 years, especially if you're a blackberry user.

I am proud to say I no longer give Verizon a dime of my money for land line, mobile, or Internet.

Have CIngular and have for the last 10+ years that I lived in Ashburn. Ten years ago they had the best coverage - I was actually a Verizon custtomer because we got a great work discount. When i moved to Ashburn Verizon was terrible - they said it was because only Cingular had a tower in the area. Things have definatley changed in the last ten years - but still stick with Cingular because I have no problems and roll-over minutes.

Question for everyone - what options do you buy and what do you think of them? I'm referring to things like internet access, text and picture messgaing packages, insurance etc

We get poor cell phone reception with our Verizon phones since moving here to Broadlands and have heard the same from the neighbors on our street. Probably varies depending where you live even just within Broadlands so my advice is to talk to your neighbors on your street/street behind you and see what their reception is like.
That being said, we have become increasingly frustrated with the entrapments of the Verizon contract and repeated errors on our bills each time we renew/change our contract/ get a new phone, etc. Also, it takes hours to get service at any of their stores when needing to buy a new phone or renew a contract. As soon as our contracts are up, we are in the market for a new provider.

We have Verizon and the reception in Southern Walk is TERRIBLE. I have complained to Verizon so much that they sent out a technician (so they said) to our neighborhood. The response was, "you do have a signal, but it is a very weak signal..." Verizon claims that they are providing me acceptable service. Of course I could go on.

I can tell you that Verizon works well outside of Southern Walk. My reception is good.

I'm glad that this forum was started as our contract ends in November with Verizon and we are definitely switching.

Many of our friends have Cingular and seem to have good reception in Southern Walk. Can anyone else comment on Cingular and the Southern Walk area?

In addition, a rumor has circulated that an organized union has kept Verizon and other cellular companies from building towers in the Southern Walk area of Broadlands. Can anyone validate this rumor?

    Thank you!

This is the first I've heard of it. I'm not aware of there ever been discussions about cell towers in Southern Walk.

who's tower is that sitting at 772 and the Greenway? I drive over to Giant or Panera, look at the cell tower, and then look at my phone and wonder why i don't have any reception.

I heard that was Sprints tower, but I am not totally sure. It does make sense since my phone is extremely clear here.

Counting down to the Cinco di mayo happy on may 5th at 5pm. Stay tuned :D

Okay... it has been a while since this topic has been discussed.

Our contract is up and we are looking to find new service provider that works in the SOUTHERN WALK of Broadlands.

We would appreciate any feedback from residents regarding their cell phone service provider and their satisfaction in the Southern Walk area?

    THANKS!

I have cingular/ATT and love it. We get 5 bars everywhere in the house. Even in the basement.

I had a few friends over one night and one of them didnt get good reception with Verizon.

I have been sprint from day one living out here and it it is perfect as thePea says. The big negative is out in the rural areas of loudoun where it is spotty. Hopefully there will be some new cell towers out there to help this. Sprint has been designed to work beautifully in the cities and suburbs and along most of the interstates. They are slowly working on the rural coverage. But where sprint works it is wonderful and always very clear at least on my phone :)

Same here -- have had Cingular/AT&T since 1999, and reception has only improved. I'm also in Southern Walk, and reception in the house was terrible when we moved in (2/06). As the year progressed, it improved dramatically, and now it's great everywhere. New tower(s), maybe?

I did the analysis on this last year for work and here is what I found: it

    1) Verizon coverage is more extensive and reliable than Cingular - Verizon drops less calls and provides more coverage areas nationally.

    2) Cingular offers better customer service and equipment options

    3) Switching your phone to international should you go out of the country is easier w/ Cingular than Verizon (unless you purchase the pricey new Verizon blackberry)

So, it basically comes down to your priorities.

    Hope that helps!

verizon also offers a motorolla global phone now as well. They CLAIM they don't reset the contract timer on people when they make changes to their contracts anymore... but I have a hard time believing that. If so, thank god.

Very happy with Cingular after switching from Verizon after more then 13 years.

    RockyzMom -

Just wondering if any tests were done in Southern Walk for Verizon??? And if so... which phone worked best?

    Thanks!
