It seems that many of the communities in Ashburn have Beach volleyball courts, and Broadlands does not. If there is one I stand corrected, and wondering where it is. We have 3 pools, Basketball courts, and tennis courts. Any chance on getting a Beach Volleyball court installed? I think it would be a great addition to our community, especially since it is almost summer.

Where was it supposed to be according to the builder drawings? I also would be interested if the HOA had a volley ball court.

The HOA has a multi purpose court by the SW pool that has the sleeves needed to set up a volleyball net. At one time we did have the net set up but it was damaged within a few hours so it was removed and not replaced.
As for a sand court in talking with several of the other HOA's that do or did have one it is a major expense for upkeep. Wild and feral animals use it as their dumping ground which is very unsanitary. Additionally, 2 of the other HOA's have have had glass bottles broken into the sand and people have been seriously injured.
If there is enough interest I can/ will look into getting the net replaced at the SW pool, but just like the tennis courts you will have to bring your own ball.

the sand volley court was originally planned to be off of chickacoan. here are original renderings in the nature center, in the hallway between the meeting room and the foyer.
where was the net at the sw pool? i never saw it. i would love to have it up again, but is it on the pavement?

At the multi purpose court down by the playground. It does not surprise me you did not see it I do not think the original one lasted even 24hours before it was destroyed.
That court is marked for both basketball and volleyball.

That is one of the problems with V-ball nets. They do make attractive targets for kids to play on (literally!).

To a kid, a V-ball net sure makes an attractive net to climb on I would imagine.

Of course we can never rule out deliberate vandalism. :(

Unlike a tennis net which can be left up all the time, I think the very nature of the design of a V-ball net precludes the option of keeping it up all the time (which has the unfortunate consequence of inhibiting residents to play V-ball.

A very tough problem to solve.

Perhaps the HOA can buy another set of Poles and net and check them out to residents, so when anyone wants to play, they can check out the poles and net and return them when they are done with them. Just a thought.

Great thought except that the hours that the HOA is open are not normally hours people would be wanting to play. I am sure there is a way to make this work just not sure yet what it is.

Well, I was thinking that if you wanted them you would check em out and keep them for a few days and then bring em back. That's what I would do if I wanted them, and if they were really popular, then the HOA could buy a couple. Just a thought.

Are there any volleyball teams here in Broadlands that play either at the Dulles Sportsplex or someplace else? I'm trying to find a team for my au pair who is an avid volleyball player. I tried getting her hooked up with a team who plays at the Sportsplex, but they were way too cliquey and told her this evening they didn't need her. WTF??? Anyway, she's played for years and wants to play here in the States. If anyone has any info, please pass it along! Thanks.

    Hi Luftinarr,

if your au pair is interested in drop ins then she can go to couple of places that I have been to...

    Herndon community Center: Wednesdays from 8:00 - 10:00 pm ( $6 entry fee )
    Steling community Center ( sterling library ) : Tuesday & Thursdays ( 7:00 - 9:00 pm $2 entry fee ).

And if she likes to play for a team at Dulles Sports Plex then she should register online at www.dullessportsplex.com and I am she will get called.

Luftinarr, Lifetime Fitness has a volleyball league we are a part of. Non-members can also join the league. If you want more info, send me a PM or go to the Loudoun Co LFT website.
