All I can think of is the term herding cats. That and lawsuits on the basis of discrimination (cuz us fat people can't walk :) )

I think that organizing "Walking School Busses" in Broadlands is a great idea. Even though my 8 yo is old enough to walk the 1 block to school I like walking him cause its a chance for us to talk. As a bonus I chat with my neighbors on the way back. I hear you "Well I live 3 blocks away and it would take too long". Fine, let a responsible neighbor walk your kid with their kid to school. We let other parents take our kids to practice or fast food. Why not let them walk your kid to school instead of you sitting in traffic at the school? Take the lead in your cul-du-sac or block and organize a list of five parents willing to walk the blocks kids to school at least 1 day a week. What a great way to get to know the kids on your block and for them to learn to respect the walk to school parents.

I also think it's a great idea; only negative I see is if I'm at the beginning of the route. I have a whole lot more walking to do than the family at the end of the route. Now, if they 'serpentine' the route each day (beginning of route is now the end, and vice-versa), THAT would be very cool...

It would make our school parking lots much safer if we had more kids walking to school. I'm always amazed at the long lines of cars waiting to drop kids off ... and the amount of fast food wrappers that fall out of the cars when the kids get out .... and the kids that are trying to finish their McD's hashbrowns really fast as they walk into the building. I have a neighbor that walks her kids to school every day (except in the heaviest of rains), and we live almost a mile from school.
