My husband is in need of some shelving in our garage (either heavy duty plastic, metal or wood) to store his work stuff. If anyone has anything they want to get rid of for free or at a reasonable price, please let me know. We need about three large shelving units. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'd like to get something a little cheaper, but if I can't come up with anything, I'll take a look at those.

    soccerdudes and others--

For a "cheapie" idea--try going to local lumber yards (i.e. Tart Lumber, Home Depot, Lowe's, Sheets Building Supply, or other dealers) and asking if they have what in the "trade" is called "dunnage lumber". When I was a sales manager for GA Pacific in Atlanta (many moons ago--;), we would sell to customers (not just wholesalers but individuals) basically scrap wood aka lumber. Sometimes you can just haul it away; and they will be glad for you to do so. They may charge you a nominal charge.

Sometimes companies will be happy to "deep discount" metal shelving, lumber, plywood, etc. All that may be wrong would be some "dings" or some other nondescript thing. Just double-check the products. You can also check at local hardware stores, metal sheeting or manufacturing companies, welding companies for scrap metals, etc.

Another idea for shelving is to check with custom closet companies for discounted or clearance shelving materials. "Going out of business" sales and antique dealers, thrift stores, Salvation Army, Goodwill (Goodwill is located in Sterling Park), and others will have materials for projects like yours. Just call around with the specifics of your project needs. Good luck. If you need anymore ideas, just ask.

Good Idea Foodie and I know Home Depot does this. They have a whole section by where they cut the lumber. :)

Lee--Thanks my friend! That is just my Mennonite "thrifty, tightwad, cheapie, recycle, and reuse" upbring--;)

soccerdudes--You are welcome. Also, you might check out local jobbers at construction sites (commercial or residential) to see if they have "scrap lumber" to haul away. Just be cautious for safety reasons, etc.

Also, T. W. Perry Building Supply and Hardware located in Leesburg is an independent dealer of building materials, lumber, and hardware. Great local business to deal with for your needs. They may have some products.

    www.twperry.com (T.W. Perry's site/info.)

Also, Sheets Lumber & Building Supply located on Shaw Road in Sterling also carries lumber and metal/steel products. I don't know web site. Info is below--

    Sheets Supply (near Tart Lumber)
    22293 Shaw Road
    Sterling, VA 20164
