As outlined in the last Newsletter, wehave three new resident positions for the Board of Directors. So far, only 1 person has submitted their name.
Please consider running for the Board.
    Thanks,
    Cliff

No one says they have to be neighbors. Let me know when and where and I will sign it for you

I don't think that is the optimum solution. :)

But it is a nice thought. LoL

What do you mean? You need 3 signatures from Broadlands residents/neighbors. Staci, as well as any other Board member can be one or more of those 3 signatures since we are all residents... I'll be happy to sign your nomination form as well...

I believe the intent on the form is for three signatures of people that know the applicant. Neither of you know me. And that may be a favourable reflection on you. :)

If the BoD is short of people running, I might suggest doing what other similiar organizations do in such cases.

Contact the members of the individual sub-committees. They have, by their agreeing to serve on the sub-committee, demonstrated some interest in helping the community. The current BoD can then coerce .. I mean.. suggest some of the members to run for the board.

Some of the problems with getting people to run for BoDs may be that they may not understand what is entailed in the duties; they may feel that they are not qualified for the position; they may feel that they are not well known enough to run for the elected office.

It can be pretty embarrassing to run for an elected position and only get 1 vote. Few people are willing to run for an elected office without some reasonable expectation that even if they don’t win, they won’t be embarrassed.

The current BoD is in an excellent position to alleviate some of these concerns. Perhaps one or more of the current BoD can write up something on the duties (in plain non-scary language); talk about the qualifications or lack of qualifications (other than a desire to help) needed. The last concern I don’t know if the BoD can address.

The BoD can publish this on the forum. It is highly unlikely that someone even considering running for the BoD would not be a member of this forum.

I have been involved in some organizations (not HOA) where we had problems getting people to agree to run. It can be difficult. I hope the BoD considers some of my suggestions. I truly feel they might help.

See anyone who knows me would not want me on the BoD :pofl::pofl::pofl::pofl:

Frankly I would have serious reservations about any organization who would accept me as a member.

hey- even the BoD needs comic relief! seiously Oz- when you aren't being self-depricating- you make a great representative. you are compassionate, you aren't afraid to speak up, you are educated in matters of the community, and best of all- you can belabor a point until your opponent concedes- just to make you shut up! I'd let you push my agendas any time! ;) and by agendas, i mean, AGENDAS- T8ER. i know what your next post would be... :nono:

If I could make it to the meetings I would run. But I have too many things right now. Unless we have a babysitting running mate for me!

    Some good questions/points.

    This is/has been done.

Anyone with questions are always free to contact Wes or any current Board member to discuss these issues. I have had a few people ask these very questions.

This has never occurred, nor do we make a public announcement how many votes each candidate gets.

There's only one qualification required.....the willingness to run. Wes puts out a brief description of what we do and, as I mentioned above, I am happy to discuss it with anyone interested.
I like your idea of putting out a brief written description that we can post here and in the Newsletter whenever we have Board elections. To avoid subjectivity, the full Board would need to agree to the language. I'll try to make this happen by next May's Annual meeting.

Not true. I have talked to 3 people recently who may run (one I'm 99% certain is running) who do not read these forums.

    Thanks for your thoughtful input.

Minimum obligations are to attend monthly HOA Board meetings. They usually last two hours. How much other time you put in is really up to you.
To get a feel for the things we discuss, you can read the minutes that are published in the newsletters or look at the agendas that I usually post in this Forum.

By now, you should all have received the meeting notice/ballot for the September 30th meeting.
Please try to attend the meeting. If you cannot, please mail in your proxy ballot.

    Techie Pals -

You should mention this at Flicks on Saturday...that's a good 60+ residents. Just remind them to send in their proxy forms, if they can't make the meeting.

You can mail in the proxy and then rescind it if you choose to come to the meeting and vote or you can still come to the meeting but not vote (allow your proxy vote to count) When you check in it will be noted if a proxy has been received.
