So i read about how we should be conserving water, etc, etc, etc. I water my lawn as little as it can get by with...and it shows. So this morning, as i'm passing by Souther Walk Plaza on my way out, noticing everything is soaked from an evening of rain---and there are sprinklers on all over the place around that plaza. This isn't the first time i've noticed it----I know home sprinkler systems can come equipped with sensors (a sponge basically) that detects when it has rained so it knows not to cut on---why can't they install this for the community sprinklers as well? they waste a lot more water than i can. especially since 70% of their water ends up running down Wynridge....

Nearly all commercial irrigations systems are equipped with a rain sensor, set at a pre-determined amount to automatically cut off irrigation, once rain fall reaches that point. That would include the HOA and Developer systems. I dont know what SW Plaza is set on.
That being said, the rain last night wasnt nearly enough to make a difference in the drought, and lack of ground moisture. Nor was it enough to trip the rain sensor, to cut off irrigation.

It's the same way where I work -- it will be actively raining, and the sprinklers are on! And that's coming out of MY paycheck!! :)
