HI - I need a babysitter for Friday October 12th at my house. Anyone know any older teens in the area who babysit? All my regulars are busy.

    Thanks!

You may want to advertise outside of Broadlands.. I believe that is the date for the homecoming game at Briar Woods.

Just a quick reminder that the Technology Committee, which runs the website and these forums has VERY STRICT RULES regarding the posting of minors' names and contact information. Basically, we don't allow them posted anywhere on our website, period.

All that we ask is that you do not post the information here directly, but use one of the other methods to exchange the information, such as Private Messaging built into these forums or email. Feel free to discuss here, but when it comes to actual names and contact info, please take it offline.

    Thank you for your understanding!

Also, check out the Broadlands Newsletter. There is a babysitting list inside. I have a built in sitter now, however when my kids were younger we used it quite frequently. I recognize many names on the list and they are all good kids.

Hi there, I know that the date you needed someone for has already passed.... But I wanted to like you know that I have been babysitting for children of all ages for over 10 years now. I am 23 currently, working for a Government Contractor in Chantilly and recently moved to Broadlands from Centreville with my fiance. I have three nieces and absoutely love children! With the new home, I am always looking for weeknight and weekend babysitting jobs to help support the cost of everything. If you need a sitter in the future, please let me know and I would be more then happy to help out!

    Thanks!
    Lindsey

as a public forum, folks should exercise caution anyway. just read a story about a woman who was killed rom answering a craigs list ad for a nanny.

referrals from friends and daycare centers are far more effective than a post in here for something as important as letting a stranger in the door with your kids...

no disrepect to you Raetopp- i trust and use this forum for almost EVERYTHING! except babysitters and book recommendations... lol

    just my humble opinion... :)

While I did hear about the woman who was murdered - I'm sorry to say that my ploy for a weekend babysitter is nothing more than a request for someone to watch my kids on occasion.

What about all the daycare ads on here? And the for sale items (another ploy to get an unsuspecting person to your house?) The restaurant ads (poison foods?) - maybe the whole forum should be shut down because of internet scams.

Obviously we all need to use discretion when answering internet ads - that usually goes without saying these days. But these are our neighbors. We live in a community, and this forum is actually extremely beneficial to a lot of people. I've met wonderful people through this website, including babysitters. Let's not get carried away because of one whack job.

several of neighbors are registered sex offenders. it's not about falling for an internet scam.this forum isn't closed to just residents.

check me our raetopp- i'm a regular friendly poster here who comments on darn near everything. i've gone to neighbors' homes to buy everything from a clarinet to a baby gate. of course you can get a pm from someone who has a sitter that they trust and that's fine too. it was just an opinion on wise resources for your most precious possession... the newsletter full of what you are looking for without any body who comes lurking into this forum to know when you are going to be out and with a bit of good fishing- where you live.

besides- i wouldn't be paranoid if they weren't out to get me! :)

Redon1.... I know you aren't referring to me in particular but I can promise you I have no ill intentions. My fiance brought up the craigslist girl as well yesterday. It is very sad :(

I babysat for the same families for over 10 years. Their children are getting older and I am no longer needed as often :( And since most of them live in Centreville, Fairfax, Manassas.... It is also a very far drive. I just thought I would let the parents in the area know that if they needed help I am more then happy to help out. I have three neices and two younger sibilings and just happen to love kids! I guess that is what happens when you come from a larger family. :)

    Redon,

As a safe sitter instructor, we tell our student to NOT post their information in the HOA newsletters for their own safety. (Yes, most of our neighbors are wonderful people.) We recommend that our students get jobs through their parent's friends and neighbors and that they only babysit for people that they know or who have been referred to them through someone they know. I am always surprised when I read the newsletter and see some of our students names and phone numbers listed.

    Jen

Which is the very same reason the Tech Committee removes that whole section from the PDF version we create and post to the website :)

Ally- you sound like a great sitter, like most people who would respond an ad, and like the kind of person i would meet (at Panera Bread likely!) to interview you as a sitter. But when it comes to online safety, I play to the EXECPTION, not the rule. and you are right- I was not referring to you or ANYONE in particular at ALL.

i agree with this 100%. when i interviewed a sitter under 18, that i found in the newsletter, i spoke with her MOM, and asked her mom to come with her so she can also know where we live and what kind of home we have. every aspect of safety should be considered given the nature of the job, and the availablilty of information- IN HERE- to non residents. thanks Linux- for pointing out that the PDF does NOT include that info!
