..of getting a parking spot at a metro mid-morning for a ride into the city? I'm guessing slim to none. If that's the case, what are the chances of finding parking in the area behind the white house around that time? I don't mind paying to park in a garage, but want to know there will be open spots somewhere.

The reserved spots at the West Falls Church station become "unreserved" after 10am and that might open up some spots. I'm not sure how full the parking garage there gets to know exactly.

Can't speak to the Metro garages. You may be able to find a spot somewhere downtown, but it will probably be difficult right by the WH. I have usually have some luck over on E-Street towards the State Department.

At West Falls Church metro, you can usually find parking in that lot next to the metro parking garage. It's next to the school. It cost $4.50 (cash only). To get to this lot, go down rt 7, make a left on haycock, and then make your next left (don't know the street name). Instead of making that right to get into the metro garage, keep going straight and you'll see the lot on the left.

If you want to drive downtown, near the white house, there are several parking garages along G st betw 13th and 14th street.

Agree with MikeC. There are plenty of public parking garages along G Street -just a short stroll to the WH.

There's a $5 garage near the Dunn Loring station that doesn't fill up. It's across from the parking lot entrance on Prosperity Ave. Click this link to see the garage on Google Maps: http://bit.ly/dl51gu
