There are small piles of white powder in the streets down Chickacoan about every other house near the curbs. At intersections such as at White Post and Truro Parish there are three piles of white powder. What is this stuff?? Looks like it's been laid down purposefully.

I noticed those as well and was wondering, it looks as though a bag of powder split open, but if it in front of as many houses and on different streets that doesn't make sense. I will ask around and see if I can find out anything.

This is the Hash House Harriers and we laid a trail through the broadlands last night and we use chalk and the powder is flower and surveyer tape to mark the running trail which is a combination of streets and off road running.

Here is a link to the dc area hashes http://www.dchashing.com/ and this club is world wide and was started by the Brits military guys during world war two in Kula Lumpur to have some fun during the war. Lot of military is still in this club as well as civilians.

I was there at last nights run and the hares were residents of the broadlands.

A lot of fun and there is always beer and of course munchies and soft drinks and water at the end.

We run all over the world. Here is a link to all the world hashes http://www.half-mind.com/

You follow the marks which you saw (cooking flower) to the end and there are a lot of tricks used in the trail to make it harder to follow for the front runners so the slow ones can catch up. The only way to find the end (beer) :) is to follow trail. So don't panic about the white globs it is only bio degradable flower totally harmless. :)

Of course, Lee. Although I can't imagine why, if you were involved, there wasn't a pot of gold at the end of the trail, as well as some truly inspiring architecture.

Actually the pot of gold was the beer at the end and the inspiring architecture was the new clydes were we ended. ha ha We started at the safeway center and ran through your streets and thru the woods after dark.

I did not lay the trail I just followed anmd ran it. Seriously it is a lot of fun and we do have a walkers trail also.

This would explain the phrase I saw written in white, “this way to liquid gold”.

I have Celiac's Disease and I think that it is totally irresponsible for you to do that! If I tripped and fell right on the spot and then got a sudden case of Pica, I could have gotten very sick!

Seriously, that sounds like fun! Is there a group here in Broadlands or is it part of the DC group?

I glad you were kidding or at least I hope you were. :)

The Hashers try to be environmentally sensitive.

Here is the link to the dc hashes http://www.dchashing.com/

The hash last Tuesday is know as "So Happy It's Tuesday" they used to run a lot out here but many have moved back to inside the beltway so they run mostly there these days. If you look at the dc website there are many chapters here and you could run or walk almost everyday of the week especially in the summer.

There are several hashes on the weekends and if you wanted you could run 2 to 3 times on Saturdays. Mount Vernon hash in the morning Great falls hash in the afternoon and the Harriet’s and harriers hash in the afternoon also. Have to look at the website to see where they are running walking for that day time they never run the same trail twice. Great way to make friends and explore the area. If one travels there is a hash almost anywhere in the world including Iraq. Unless you have a gun and full body armor I don't recommend that one. ha ha :) Anyway I have ran thru Europe, south America you name it.

I have ran thru jungles to the dessert oceans rivers creeks., mountains and East Los Angeles. I have done many city runs as well you never know what you are going to run thru. Ha ha ha Ran thru the Parthenon and the Greek islands and thru castles. Cool thing about this group all are welcome and if you can’t run there is always a walkers trail, if you can’t walk, then just hang out. We have many big events where 5000 of us show up and it can literally be any place in the world. Some of the hashes are geared to families and some to adults only and usually there is a warning if it is adult only such as the Tuesday hash puts out. Many bring their dogs and baby joggers if appropriate usually there is a warning if it is doable for the dogs and baby joggers. We have many events where we rent out an entire club with a live band or DJ.

I just did what I call the Big Chill hash long weekend which I do every year. Big Chill after the movie and Wilson Pickett who was my neighbor until he died. He had several songs in the big chill movie and he would come over when he was well and hang with us over the last several years or more ago..

The Big Chill is people I know from as long as first grade and different parts of the world.

This year my friends that came and stayed with me came from Mexico City , South Africa, California, Texas, New York. We did a wine trail hash one day that even went thru west Virginia. Had a party sat night with a lot of the local hashers even found time to watch the Big Chill movie like we do every year. Had a few gourmet cooks here so food was always an adventure. Ha ha . Next years Big Chill will be in June and a live band for the sat. party. OK I will shut up as I have talked too much about funest group of people I have ever known. Ha ha ha ha
