I am looking for something fun to do on 4th of July during the day with my 2 year old son. Fireworks aren't an option since he'll be sleeping by then, so we are looking for fun daytime activities that are local. Any ideas? Thanks!

ps- Can I assume the pools are open that day?

It is not exactly a daytime event but we went to the fireworks show in leesburg last year and it was pretty good. We will go again this year. There is also live music and food.

Leesburg, Ida Lee Park, Rt. 15 (King Street) and Ida Lee Drive, Leesburg, Virginia. (703) 777-1368. Gates open at 5 p.m. Fireworks around 9:30 p.m.

The Leesburg parade is a lot of fun I think. I'll be there walking with the Democrats for the 3rd year in a row. A friend with a 1 1/2 year old said they had a great time with last year.

There is also an event in Brambleton at the Town Center I read about in the Easterner. It is starting at 2pm with a parade where kids can join in with decorated bikes, wagons, scooters. Afterwards, there will be food, rides, and entertainment. Free for 2 and under and 19 and up.

Pick up the latest Loudoun Easterner. These activites and more, like the Purcellville events, are listed. We went to the Purcellville activites last year and there were a few rides, food, etc. Fun for the kids (2 and 4).
