What makes a neighborhood great? PEOPLE!

Today I got to experience just how great the Broadlands can be because of the people that live here.

This morning a friend of mine forwarded me a lead for a Craigslist ad for a game I've been wanting. This friend actually already has this game, so he knows I lust it because he always finds me gravitating to it when I go over to his place. So, he saw an ad this morning for that game and he forwarded to me. It's good to have nice friends.

But the problem was I'd really have to jump on this deal if I were to get it. People swoop in like vultures on these ads all the time. Issue was.. I had no truck, I had no help, and I'm getting on an airplane in just a few hours. I'm screwed! But after a blessing from the CFO, I put a call into my neighbor. He, on no notice, accepted my plea to help me go get this game - which would involve him giving me almost 2hrs of his time, his truck, and his labor to help me go get this game in Centreville and bring it back here. Without a pause, he offered to help, and within 30mins we were on our way. It's GREAT to have great neighbors and friends.

This guy not only lent me his time, but his labor and truck.. on no notice. That's the kind of generosity you wish everyone had, and try to instill in our children, and that's the kind of people you can find right here in your neighborhood.

How did I find this great guy? We'll it helps that he lives on my street, but we've also got closer through volunteering for the community. He has volunteered his time for the community for years now and we've found more in common through the time we've spent together on various community projects. So head out and see what's out there, every little bit helps and you might find great people like this.

So thanks again buddy - you're awesome and as always call me if I can help you in any way.

Here's to great neighbors and people in our community! :tgif::partywave:

i can relate- my neighbors are those types of people as well. i feel really fortunate- epecially when i hear horror stories of what some of my friends go thru with the people the will be living among for years to come... yikes.

your turn will come Steve, and someone will be writing a story about YOU on this board! :)

I am still trying to figure out what "game" needs a truck. When you started the story I thought it was about one of your neighbors running out and getting a WII for you or something. Good story though.

Even though we live in the "boonies" and acreage separates our farm from other neighboring farms, we make a conscious choice to get together for backyard barbecues and help each other whenever possible.

In today's busy and hectic society, it is nice to live in an area (whether Broadlands or elsewhere) where you get to know your neighbors. Even though our families are large, we still like to look after our neighbors when they go away--which isn't too often--when you farm alot of acreage! We kinda have to make "appointments"; but it turns out most of the time with conflicted schedules. Our kids plays with our neigbors' kids also. Sometimes I think I could open a "country daycare center" with the amount of company we have at our farm.

Sometimes your neighbors maybe waiting for you to make the first move. Growing up my mom always took some baked goods or some other small gift to welcome neighbors near our farm in Georgia. I try to do the same when time permits.
