So this morning driving down village Dr (i was doing the speedlimit) a lady in a white toyota passed me. I found it to be horribly rude (and the school buses had just finished picking up the kids) and dangerous. When she got side by side, I realized she had a kid (in a car seat at least) with her.

Would you just go on about your day, or call the sheriff non-emergency number and report her license plate?

I just don't understand how some people can be so self absorbed to take a risk like that.

I followed a woman yesterday driving down the road holding her cell phone in her left hand and gesturing wildly with her right hand. Needless to say, she was swerving all over the place, including into oncoming traffic. I followed her all the way to the elementary school parking lot and I was going to say something to her-until I realized she was my neighbor... I didn't feel as though I could have confronted her at that point.

Is Village Drive a two lane road? If so, I would have called the sheriff and reported it.

Call the non emergency number and report her. In the future, if you ever experience something like that again, I would call 911 immediately as the driver is being reckless and is a danger to our community. If there is an officer in the vicinity he may be able to respond quickly.

Tough to call 911 unless there is an actual incident.

Police cannot ticket for an offense like this unless they witness it.

If the person is brazen enough to pass another person on a 2 lane road while kids are on the way to school I am fairly sure they are speeding, they probably have a higher chance of running at least one of the community stop signs or committing some other kind of offense that the officer can witness.

Even if that is not the case logging the incidence will increase the chances of having a cop out patrolling the area in the near future. Esp. if the person felt it was dangerous enough to warrant a 911 call.

I appreciate the suggestions, and will call the non emergency number in the future. I am glad my gut feeling (which was to call) is what most of the sane people here would have done as well :)

Playing a little devil's advocate here...
Where do you draw the line? Do you call if the person tailgates you rather than passes you because it's intimidating? Speed limits are nice to have and all, but if you actually look at most roads, most people are exceeding the speed limit and slowing down for the few people who aren't.

Also, perhaps the other woman thought you were slowing down to drop a kid off for the bus? I've seen some moms in minivans make some very interesting driving maneuvers on Village around bus time.

So what - that doesn't warrant illegal maneuvers.

This thought reminded me of two such situations that almost lead to accidents right here in broadlands.

One day I'm driving north on Demott (over by the summerbrooke pool.. 25mph street).. I slow down to make my left hand turn onto Vestals gap and right as I turn I have to slam on the brakes because for some reason unknown someone behind me thought it was ok to pass me on the LEFT on this two lane road. I almost got tboned by someone driving BEHIND me.

Same thing happened to me on my street.. a 2 lane road 25mph. I need to make a right hand turn into my driveway.. no one coming head on traffic.. I slow down and slightly turn left to get the wider turn to the right.. and almost get sideswiped by someone who felt it necessary to try to pass me as I turn into my driveway.

Then another time..pulling into wegmans... there is the store entrance on the near side of the building. We were in a line of cars.. the first car stops and stands there. The second car in line is impatient, and decides they will pull around and try to pass the first car. The second car comes within 2ft of steamrolling the kid and parent that the first car had been waiting to finish crossing the street. The driver couldn't see why the first car had stopped, but was too impatient and thought they knew better.. and almost severely hurt or killed someone in the process.

It just goes to show 'what you think...' is happening isn't all that important when you are driving. Drive based on what you know and be ready for what you may not know. Saving 30 seconds is never worth your life nor someone else's.

Yes if you are intimidated you call

Just because people are doing something does not make it right. I really don't care if everyone is doing it but me. The residents of Broadlands have to decide what kind of community they want. I don't want residents speeding, or intimidating me when I drive or passing me when I am following the rules. So I will call it in and allow the Sheriff's department to do their job in determining if what they are doing is "reasonable." After all that is what the deputies are trained to do.

How do the sheriff's make an accurate determination of what is reasonable if they are not there to witness it? Short of truly aggregious behaviour, what you may think is unreasonable or intimidating may not even register with most others.

As for being intimidated, are you truly intimidated, just plain angry, or both? If anger is involved, the majority of people would most likely embellish, even a tiny bit, to make their cause seem more plausible.

I do not want my sheriff dept to waste time responding to a call of "possible" tailgating where someone "felt" the other driver was too close.

Well I do not see it as wasting their time I see it as helping them determine where their presence is needed and the best use for my tax dollars.

Obviously if they are not in the area the chances of them seeing the said incident is small but it should bring more police presence into the community. Which may prevent a more serious offense or catch all those repeat offenders. Again ignorance does not make it an ok behavior.

I would love to make our community a very unfriendly place for crime whether that be property damage and breaking and entering of vehicles or speeding and tailgating. Really don't care, don't want it here!

I know this is an old thread, however, I just called the non-emergency number to report an incident. They told me that unless they observe the person driving, they can't do anything about it. So what good does it do?

You can fill out the Loudoun County Sheriff's Dept Traffic Complaint form.

    Link provided: http://loudoun.vhost.vipnet.org/sheriff/complaint.htm

The Sheriff's Dept tracks these forms and assign additional patrols if they receive multiple complaints in a certain area. Hope the info is helpful

Thanks lilpea for making this form available. I used it to report a stop sign runner last week - you know who you are :nono: Just yesterday, the Sheriff was parked adjacent to the intersection, monitoring.

also, to the young girl in the silver Audi A4 with I think the UVA sticker on the driver side rear door window, who blatantly ran the stop sign at Crosin and Clairborne, then accelerated well beyond the posted speed limit north bound on Clairborne, there is no reason to hurry that much period.
