Microsoft Database and System Administrator

JOB SUMMARY


The Microsoft Database and Systems Administrator manages the daily activities of Windows Server 2003/2008, and MS SQL 2005/2008 database servers. Experience installing and maintaining Tridion, Sitecore, or Ektron Content Management Systems as well as SharePoint, a mid-level understanding of networking and VMWare technologies is also a plus. Database Administration activities include developing, maintaining, testing and implementing Microsoft SQL server based databases to support web content management systems as well as custom-built web applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Optimize system operation and resource utilization
• Update network diagrams, adding and deleting users
• Manage software performance including: upgrade software, configuring and installing new hardware, testing and debugging the system, monitoring the system for problems, placing service calls, assist in performing system capacity analysis, assist in planning and monitoring the system for security problems using intrusion detection software.
• Assist users in accessing and using web-based systems
• Regular maintenance of SQL Servers in the firm across all environments.
• Responsible for backups, recovery and disaster recovery planning.
• Analyze and determine database physical and logical architecture.
• Recommend and implement process and data architecture improvement changes.
• Performance tuning, troubleshooting, backups, system monitoring, and capacity planning
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required

Experience:

• 3-5 years experience administering development and production environments with diverse operating systems such as Windows Server 2003/2008.
• Application servers and web servers in particular IIS.
• Installing/configuring/maintaining RDBMs, in particular Microsoft SQLServer 2005/2008 including system patching and resource management.
• Virtualization software such as VMWare.
• Configuring and administering ISCSI SAN devices for backup purposes as well as for use in production environments.
• Hands on with DB Configuration and a working experience with DB Replication / DB archiving / Query tuning / Database design / Monitoring.
