For those of you looking into area preschools, Winnie the Pooh Preschool will hold an open house from 7pm - 9pm on Thursday, Feb. 8. The preschool is Loudoun County's only cooperative preschool, and it's now in its 36th year and serves children ages 2 1/2 through Pre-K. The school employs 5 professional teachers with 10 students per class, though there's always a "helping parent" in each class, making the adult/student ratio 1:5.

Since the school is owned and operated by the parents, they benefit from much lower tuition rates than other area preschools. The school, which is nonsectarian, is located on the grounds of Mt. Hope Baptist Church on Belmont Ridge Rd. For more information call the school at 703-724-0496 or visit www.wtpp.org.

My daughter has enjoyed her 2 years at Winnie The Pooh and we'd highly recommend the school to anyone looking for a great nurturing environment for their kids.

The Open House tomorrow night will be a true open house format, so anyone interested can stop in anytime between 7 & 9.

This is a good opportunity to meet the teachers, the director, and other parents that you can get information from and ask questions. You can see the classrooms and examples of what the kids do and learn. There will be refreshments also!

If your time is limited, you are welcome to just stop in for an information packet. Children can come too.

I would recommend Winnie the Pooh to anyone looking for a small school with a family friendly atmosphere and caring teachers. My daughter loves going there and we are returning for a second year. Co-ops are a great way to be involved in your child's education and see how your child interacts with others in a classroom setting. The parent also gets the benefit of interacting with the teachers and meeting other parents - plus one of the lowest tuitions in the area.
