Homer, thanks for the post. While you are accurate this is not a governmental election, it is an elected body and should be held to the highest standards. By eliminating all appearances of improprieties, integrity is established.

True, but the HOA is not in homeowners hands. It's entirely in the corporate hands of VM and Terrabrook and whomever Terrabrook sells to until Broadlands is finished. I doubt the Homeowners on the board have any real authority other than as a mouthpiece.

And as for being held to a higher standard I'm not sure the covenant law requires that. If you do a search on the net you'll find horror stories of HOAs run amok. There is a reason Mulder on X Files stuck a pink flamingo on his lawn and said "Bring it on!". Fortunately I'm sure our HOA does not have clay golems enforcing the rules, lol!

Maybe they came with the Bene Gesserit. I knew that there was a reason that I thought that you were cool, Homer.

Chris - maybe you should move to Arrakis and try to convince the Fremen of your uber-liberal ways. Bet you would end up in the belly of a worm!

T8erman! Dune has witchcraft, false idols, sin, and adultery. How could you ever be involved in such things with your political beliefs? Dude, they'd kick you out of the GOP!

chris - I am a very moderate conservative. In fact, I will ALWAYS go "left" before going far right. "Those" people frighten me! I would hazard a guess that I vote 60-65% of the time for Republicans more because of my work than not! Republicans typically like to spend more on a defense budget which gives me much more opportunities.

T8erman: Those "people" scare me, too. I can understand voting with your wallet; you gotta protect your family. Still, I don't like the fundamentalist right-wing Republican policy of spending our country into MASSIVE debt just to give it all to a couple hundred ultra-rich corporations (like HCA).

I am now 100% against the hospital because those Citizens for the Broadlands Community Hospital are pestering me. I don't want their stupid mailers (which are a distortion of the facts) and I ESPECIALLY do not want them CALLING me.

That's why I signed up for the national do not call list - to not be pestered by stupid telemarketers and pollsters and biased stooges of HCA.

Unfortunately, the DNC list doesn't apply to political groups and non-proffit groups. :(

    brim-
HCA is a for-profit organization. That's why they will pay millions of dollars in taxes to the county, while not-for- profits don't pay a dime.

brim: HCA continues to practice corporate deceit. Though HCA is for profit, it has set up a not-for-profit front (Citizens for Broadlands Regional Medical Center). This not-for-profit can call you whenever it wants to spread deceptive messages.

And, for all of you who say that HCA is reformed, I ask just how is using a not-for-profit as a front a sign of good corporate citizenship?

As you are aware I have worked for the last two years trying to keep HCA from building in our Broadlands community. During that time I have come to know many people at Loudoun Hospital Center. I have grown to respect and trust every individual I have ever met there and have established great friendships and working relationships with them. Recently a job opening was posted at LHC which matched my skills and I applied. I was selected for the final round of interviews, was offered a position and have accepted. My previous job kept me on the road too much, and I'm excited to have an opportunity to work for a first-class organization close to home. I'm proud to work in this new role with our community hospital. Because there has been so much misinformation about so many things related to HCA's attempt to build in our neighborhood, I wanted to be sure you heard directly from me about what I'm doing. Thanks, Donna

    Donna,
Congratulations on your new job. I am fairly new to the forum, but have been following the discussions about HCA. My family is definitely against building a hospital in Broadlands. Now that it appears that development will be extended farther West, there is need, in my opinion, for a hospital there. I know, from reading the forum, that some cranky, crabby people will have negative things to say about your accepting this position. Loudoun County Hospital's gain will be our loss, but I wish you all the best. And please, don't feel that you can't give us your opinions!!!!

Well this person from an old thread says they live near a hospital and you get used to the noise after awhile. hmmmm what if you can't get used to it. Interesting comment to say the least.

I only went quickly through this thread but many people on this thread seem to have disappeared after the hospital got voted down. There also seems to be much opposition to it from back then.

Hey I think this hospital needs to be throughly debated.

Personally after the crap built on waxpool and many other places in this county with no regard to it's neighbors I think all development needs serious debate on the effects to it's neighbors and people saying you will get used to the noise that live near an hospital isn't all that encouraging to hear.

We voted for slow growth so what is the hurry to build another hospital at the moment.

I hate to be a NIMBY person, but I don't want a frigging hospital in MY NEIGHBORHOOD. Hospitals belong in COMMERCIAL settings, like Reston. Easy access is another thing. With all of the "planning" that went into the development of Ashburn, you'd think that they could find a location that would be easy to get to for all of the west half of LoCo, and also more than 4 miles from another hospital.

Uh...Mr. Rogers......when was the last time you were at Reston Hospital? It is surrounded by residential...as is Inova Fair Oaks....as is Inova Fairfax....as is Inova Cornwall....as is Inova Alexandria.......
There is no suitable site ANYWHERE in Western Loudoun (you need 60 plus acres zoned commercial with water and sewer). Even if there was, there is no population base to support one.

Lee....Living next to a Fire and Rescue Station versus a hospital are two different things. When calls come in to a station, they are often treated as emergencies, therefore they will often hit the streets with sirens. Very few of these result in a transfer of a life or death situation to a hospital. That is when sirens will be used. Even then they will usually turn them off as they near the hospital.
Lee, rather than digging up a comment from a 3 year old thread, why don't you do a little research as I suggested in the other thread. It will be good for you!!
