Interesting... I now see those maps have been updated and they're both saying 6-12" for us now. but we're much to close to the 12"-18" band for my liking.

Waxpool is HORRIBLE! Came from Ashburn Village Blvd and saw several people stuck as well as a dump truck being towed from a snow bank. Doesn't look like its seen a plow. Definitely take Ashburn Farm Parkway instead!

Thanks Flynnibus - will be headed that way tomorrow. :)

That little stretch of Asbhurn Village Blvd from Waxpool up to the IHOP/Bertuccis area at Ashburn Farm BLVD is NASTY. Avoid that if you can!

While you're avoiding things, 28 S of the Dulles Access Road is bad - at least up to Westfields (which is even worse!). Going southbound this morning it was all packed/slushy with brief spots of clearing. Coming back north this evening was a bit bettter - the left lane pretty clear, the center lane pure slush and the right lane alternating slush, clear, hard-pack wash boardy. Sure gave the shocks a good workout today! Oh and for once I felt like I got my $4 worth on the Greedway - it was clear & mostly dry this morning. That part of the ride was great!

28 South from the airport to Chantilly was horrible. 28 north from the airport to Ashburn was totally clear with all 3 lanes open. Makes you wonder how there can be such a difference on the same road.

I think the big difference is what was in Loudoun county vs Fairfax county. I drove that road several times today and it seemed to change at the county line. Plus when you add in the exact same thing on rt 50 (Fairfax side horrible and Loudoun completely dry)

I see another update has happened and that 12+ band has moved farther away from us.

My 'prediction' is 13-14" by the time it's over on Wednesday night. The wildcard will be the winds, which will blow snow all over and cause some places to have less and other places more within a small area.

sharse: I agree with Mr. Linux on Accuweather. I usually go by NOAA/NWS predictions, it seems Weather.com just regurgitates NOAA's data.

Back to the roads, Waxpool absolutely sucks rotten eggs. Shellhorn & LoCo Pwky not so much. I just got back from Wegmans and had several white knuckle moments, especially exiting from the shopping center & the road that runs along the back end of the Verizon campus...honestly at one point I asked myself "what in the Holy H I was thinking and did I really need that yogurt that badly", thankfully 1) I didn't have lil pea with me & 2) people kept their distance when I put my hazard lights on.

I like wind....we have tons of snow in our roof, hopefully it will all fall down if not already frozen

That brings up a good point; folks in townhomes who like to park their car(s) in their driveways might want to park their vehicle a foot or two further from their garage door than normal in order to put some space in front of your car in the event of falling icicles, snow and/or ice falling from the edge of their roof. I've seen some pretty nasty stuff fall from some gutters on my street and just barely miss the hood of a car sitting right below.

My concern is the trees that still have a lot of snow on them from last time. More wet snow and the added weight may take them down in the wind. We have two very large evergreen trees laying across our deck thanks to the recent snowfall. So knock off all the snow you can now before more builds up and the weight and wind cause the trees to topple.

Rt 28 south of 267 swings back and forth mile by mile. From dry to snow pack. It's not safe to drive at speed in traffic because it changes back and forth so often.

If you all think Waxpool is bad... you ain't seen nothing. Rt 50 in Fairfax (near Rt 29) was still slush piles that bottomed out my car... and no pavement anywhere in sight. It was 3x as worse as any neighborhood street I've seen. And that was at 9pm on Monday night.

I would easily say that probably 95% of the drivers on Rt 28 south of the Toll Road this morning were going at or above the speed limit. Pretty close to a normal work day, just lighter volume of traffic.

Also, not only cars, it could fall on our head while passing garage or while shoveling the new snow later today.

I had to break a huge and wide icicle that formed in our roof which was about to fall anytime. I was able to reach that from our guest bedroom window. just opened the window, used a small plastic shovel to push it a bit and fell down with a big bang. I am glad I did that.

But I would strongly recommend to take an extra caution if you have to do the same.
