And what about those who were promised when they bought here in 1996 thru 2002 that it was going to be office park !!

Unfortunately, it does cut both ways.

That's the point I am trying to make. We can't count on promises. If people want to pin their hopes on the promise of another LHI hospital somewhere over the rainbow more power to them. As for me I would rather go with the sure thing. I agree it may not be the best choice but it's the only solid offer on the table.

I agree it cuts both ways, because things can and do change. My point is there's a difference between checking the zoning and allowed uses and seeing office buildings, and being told a hospital is definitely coming in spite of the zoning.

Maybe they should've checked with you Barbara on the allowed uses. I guess they didn't have enough brains to check the zoning. Any hospital any where needs a special exception. The whole land use issue is hogwash. This wasn't about land use issues. This was about forcing HCA to sell the land they already own and have been paying on and forcing them to build in a place that isn't ready to support a hospital.

I would love to see HCA sell their land for a strip mall or office park and a soup kitchen or homeless shelter be put in it. That would fix everyone's attitude about mentally insane people and "strangers" coming into the neighborhood! Wake up guys, Broadlands isn't a locked down, gated community. There are strangers and traffic in there every day! Ya'll are amazing. I hope HCA does sue and they win and they build the hospital!

As for HCA being a "bully", what about Loudoun? How many times have they sued the state because of their approvals on BRMC? It does cut both ways!!!

The only promise or guarentee in this life is that we will one day die! Hopefully someone doesn't need a hospital to help them prevent that during rush hour!!!

Let's pray they don't sell to a non-caring individual with by rights use and make it worse then a hospital.

Wow, Sox, checking with me wouldn't have been any more effective than whoever "promised" a hospital would definitely be built. I'm not a branch of the government.

As for rush hour, it applies to everyone in Loudoun and beyond, since so many people jumped over Loudoun to buy homes because of A) affordability or B) wanting to live in a "rural" setting even though the job that pays for it is in an urban one. The supervisors who voted to build BRMC are the same ones who lobby against any road improvements anywhere in the county. The roads need to get better no matter where the services (of all kinds) are.

What I'm pointing out is that the neighborhood does have a say in those special use permits/rezonings. They just can't start building something that the area is not zoned for.

Neil, how about Hooters for the site? Side by side with Clyde's, good combination.

I disagree and think the BOS made a mistake. That aside...

There is going to be speeding no matter goes in there! At least an ambulance will have lights and sirens! The businessman (or woman) who is flying down the road to make the meeting they are late for will not have this! And, they'll likely be on the phone and eating their breakfast at the same time!

As for the toll, wouldn't you pay anything you had to in order to make it to the hospital on time? I'd have to pay a toll to go to Reston hospital, because Loudoun isn't an option for my family.

I'm one Broadlands resident who is sad that this has to go to court, but so be it, if that's what it takes!

I know this wasn't posted to me but felt like I could respond since I've been to Reston on several occasions...had 2 babies there, a surgery there and a couple ER visits (one for a tetnus for my daughter and once for 2 broken bones in my other daughter's arm). No complaints about the hospital, just a couple nurses that could use some bedside manor. But, I'll take crappy bedside manor as long as they take good care of myself and my family.

Again, requires a special rezoning ... Clydes had to get one. However, just because Clydes did, does not mean that a Hooters will.

Besides, I hope Hooters corporate would have the sense not to put it in the middle of a residential area. Out by MCI and the new motels there is a great place.

After reading this thread I'm hesitant to bring in back to the front, seems like a hot topic. Just curious to see if anyone knew the latest on the purposed Broadlands Hospital. Is it a dead issue or are they still trying to build?

    Thanks

Inova is suing the State to overturn the COPN approval of BRMC.
HCA is suing the county to overturn the disapproval.

In the past 18 months I have been very sick, due to on going treatments which require immediate medical attention. After my last round at Loudoun (Feb 06) , I had towait in the ER for over 4 hours...which lead to an emergency surgery and later put me into the ICU for a week...I did not feel the care was all that great (since they are part of the INova health care system that underpays and over works their employees - Last month I had to call 911, they transported me to Reston per Dr's request...the care at Reston was Night and Day. TOP NOTCH. Plus Reston/HCA offers private rooms as a SOP for patience and the nursing staff is amazing. B/C of some treatments I have my veins are very poor, after my first IV infiltrated they put in a central line as a Standard practice...while at Loudoun I had to have my IV replaced over 8 times...but in the end only you can make the right choice.

That brings up a good point. If not a hospital, what? I'd rather have a hospital with a helipad nearby (had that before we moved here, no problems, just benefits, close, convenient, etc.) than a Wal-Mart or Target. Then we'd be talking traffic...

We'll be getting lucky if it is a nice professional office park. My money is on HCA selling the site to a big box store developer. Now that will improve home values ;-).

Its already zoned for the office park, the 'big box store' would require a rezoning, which for the reasons I stated before, won't happen.
