Is it VDOT or is it the budget that they have to work with?

    I would say both!

Can they even PLOW this junk that is left on our streets? I'm thinking a jackhammer is what is needed.

Broadlands Parkway in front of the Safeway is a disaster zone. And I love how people have just created a new entrance in front of the gas station by
driving right over the traffic island. NICE. Just left there about an hour ago and there were two mufflers in the road. Serves them right! Idiots.

T8ergirl, when I was at that exact spot around noon today I saw a VDOT plow coming westbound on BLands Blvd, coming from Overland Park toward Safeway. HE HAD HIS PLOW UP... he was driving the road BUT NOT EVEN PLOWING IT.

And I saw someone who was about to turn left into the gas station where you mentioned when I think they realized that was not what was supposed to happen. The road is so nasty it's hard to remember where you're supposed to turn, and where not, when you can't see the road markings.

I think it started by some white collar redneck making the turn at the gas station because too many people where queued up to make the normal left. Before they flattened the snow (still refusing to call that mess plowed), it was pretty much the same amount of work to use the cutout as it was to drive over the median. Unfortunately, at this point I would think it would be a little more obvious.

Remember, there are streets that the HOA is repsonsible for and there are streets that VDOT is repsonsible for. I live on an HOA street and it is just fine.

What I can't understand is the VDOT plow came down our street and cul-de-sac and made one little single lane pass. Later that evening a very large VDOT plow came back and basically drove on that same path with its plow up. No attempt to widen the path or clear the cul-de-sac! It's like he was just looking to see what was done. Pathetic!!
I agree, Broadlands Blvd by the shopping center is crazy!! What is going on?

We came through there this morning. It's really strange. Broadlands Blvd from Overland Park to the shopping center entrance was heavily sanded overnight (nice). But from the shopping center entrance to Claiborne it's untouched. A sheet of ice. I don't get it. Why only sand half the road?.
As I recall Broadlands Blvd is still under the responsibility of Van Metre correct?

From Claiborne to Demott is VDOt controlled. Anything past Demott is developer controlled

I'd GLADLY pay more in Homeowners dues go back to having a private plowing service plow the roads...it was SO much better!!!!!

so what can we do about this? it seems we're unanimously agreed the work done by vdot is unacceptable. can we get the HOA to take the streets back over, or start a letter writing campaign to vdot to clean up their shoddy work, who over VDOTs head can we complain to? Complaining to each other is one thing, but I'm trying to figure out what actions we can take to help correct the problem. There's power in numbers.

See Page 11 of the last three Broadlands Newsletters for the VDOT contact.
Your State Representative is David Poisson.
Your State Senator is Mark Herring.
Your Loudoun Supervisor is Steve Snow.

Ummm....Is there anyone within the Broadlands that can't get out, to maybe go to the grocery store? I admit the plowing is not the best, but I at least believe that everyone can get out. Take is slow.

If you've been following what's been going on in Richmond, this is exactly one of the things being considered. Delegating the responsibility for secondary road clearing to the county or HOA's. That way, the State can keep even more of our money to spend elsewhere!

I am all for secession (sp?). Anyone with me? Then we can charge our own tolls for people who want to pass through our new state! And keep schools closed for weeks for 3-4 inches of snow and ice b/c we don't plow or treat the roads. AND, we can build a stoplight on every unneccessary intersection, but build only 4-way stop signs at intersections that have between 8 and 16 lanes meeting. That might be funny. Oh, and raise taxes year after year, regardless of the value of properties. Wait a minute...

I agree, having seen their plows in action last year. Unfortunately, that's the price you have to pay when VDOT takes over responsibility for maintenance of the streets.

I have to say that Baldwin Boro here in PA did a great job of plowing and sanding locally. In Pittsburgh it was a nightmare, side streets are basically skating rinks for cars.

Why hasn't the HOA cleared their walkways? I can only imagine that they are required to accomplish this under the same deadline as residents and businesses.

Our contractor's are, and have been, working on it. As most of us know, this storm's precipitation has proven to be extremely difficult to remove.
