Since we don't maintain an email data base, I'm not sure what we would be investigating...this is a question about gaining access to email addresses, correct?

Please forgive my careless typing! The HOA DOES NOT MAINTAIN AN EMAIL DATABASE OF THE RESIDENTS

But the Neighborhood Watch Committee did have a listserv where many residents did provide e-mail information for alert e-mails. Wonder who used to chair that committee.

This is the only community based group that I did provide my e-mail address to and I am receiving Stop BRMC e-mails.

Your information can be purchased through direct mail houses that includes email and addresses, from magazine subscriptions, warranty cards, grocery store memberships etc. This is why you should have a ghost email address when purchasing products over the internet and other request for personal information and not use your personal one. I also use a bogus telephone number so I don't appear on a telemarketing list.

There is so much conspiracy theory going on, that this is a prime example why nothing gets done in Wash DC as well as the Broadlands, as the is a Black and White to everything and not a gray (work things out).

It is interesting how this is the Braodlands Hsopital, that has pitted neighbor vs neighbor and others neighborhoods vs. Broadlands, when this is a Loudoun County issue and should be called the Loudoun HCA Hospitial or Ashburn HCA Hospital.

Just like the recreation center failed to get passed, because it was in the Braodlands vs. being the Ashburn rec center. Positioning is evrything.

IF HCA is interested in our opinion, they should step froward and have focus groups to listen to the concernes of everyone and adjust and disclose exactly what is happening.

That's nice to know, but where did they get our addresses for this particular issue? That's all we want to find out. Sounds like a simple request that has yet to be answered.

I've bought a lot of email lists for legitimate business purposes. The scenario you inference is highly unlikely. Besides, if it was true, then I would think CCoB would be producing the invoice ASAP to calm this issue. The don't have an invoice for bought email addresses. They have said, they have no idea how they got the names. No conspiracy with that. No bought lists with that answer.

When you jump to a conclusion that "Broadland's Hospital started this" makes me think you're not following the whole story. You do know this is about the CCoB email distribution list that Inova is funding, don't you?

Why is it the Broadlands community folks think they're the only group of people receiving e-mails or sollicitations?

Based on tha fact that numerous peope in Broadlands received unsolicited e-mails, I would imagine that most of the county is probably on CCB's list.

Whether they want to be or not.

Exactly what I was implying. No one is immune. And as someone stated earlier, whenever asked for an e-mail give out a ghost e-mail and telephone number.

How many of you who received the unsolicited email have a child who attends Eagle Ridge? Very interesting that an Inova Loudoun Hospital employee volunteered to manage the student directory... Here is the PTO page showing the culprit. I bet that almost everyone who received an email despite never signing up had a student at Eagle Ridge. I don't think the PTO or ERMS allow anyone to use their list for mass spams but that doesn't seem to matter to Inova or CCoB. Now they are going to tell the BOS that anyone who didn't opt out opposes BRMC?

This is the email response I got back when I requested again to be removed from the email list yesterday. Apparently the only way to now be removed is to use their link to opt-out which requires you to provide first nad last name. Since I am uncertain if they have my name in their database why would I provide this information to them to capture in their database?

"If you want to remove your name from the list, please follow the steps provided in the previous e-mail. These e-mails follow all regulations and comply with anti-spam policies. If you fail to remove yourself from the list, we will not be held liable. The link to unsubscribe is located at the very bottom of the previous e-mail and is entitled update/change my
    profile.

I was told I was removed from the list and didn't have to fill anything out. Maybe it was before they updated their site but I am assuming I am off the list. If I am not, I have the emails that said I was and that they don't know how I was put on the list to begin with.

I would love to see the list. I bet there are lots of duplicates if it is using emails. Maybe they will make the list available sometime. It might be very interesting.

The list of email addresses will never be made public, nor should it. That would be an ever worse fate for the poor people who got on that 'list' in the first place. Can you imagine the amount of spam that would be sent to those addresses once they are released in the wild?

CCB should do what I suggested a week ago; destroy the list as it exists today, and request that anyone who wants to be on it to go to their website and 'subscribe' to their list. Of course, they are very reluctant to do this. It would reduce the size of their list considerably, to levels that would no longer be useful as a tool to make blanket statements about how Broadlands residents feel about the hospital.

In the meantime, CCB is using a list of email addresses, which THEY have put together, and which they have admitted publicly on multiple occasions that they have no idea how they acquired the addresses which make up the list. Sorry, but that's no excuse to still use those addresses.

Additionally, in the past 7 days, more addresses have appeared on the list and received emails from CCB, to folks who have NOT communicated with CCB since their last mass emailing. So here's what I think is going on, which could be totally wrong:

CCB was getting ready to release their so-called 'opt-out' functionality. Knowing that many people currently on their list would opt-out, they decided that it would be to their best interest to add another batch of email addresses to the list, hoping that some of those would 'stick', thus increasing their numbers. Where they got those additional addresses is anyone's guess, but I don't believe their 'excuse' that they were referals from other members. If they are/were accepting random email addresses sent to them from 'members', that's behavior that should not be tolerated by ANY organization. Show me ONE honest/ethical business that does this and is getting away with it. I'll be waiting to hear back from you...

I urge/challenge CCB to show some ethics and some responsibilty towards Broadlands residents. Please re-read my previous posting:

    http://www.broadlandshoa.org/hoaforum/showthread.php?p=89670#post89670

Until they do something to the effect of what I previously suggested, they should not be taken seriously, and should be considered a 'safe' entity with which to trust any of your private information. In fact, their website has NO PRIVACY POLICY available anywhere, and nor does their email list. As it stands right now, they can do whatever they want with people's information, as long as it was voluntarily given to them, by the proper owner of that information, and not by a third-party. The info they gathered without people's authorization and are using, that's a whole other can of worms...

Lisa - I didn't enter any info other than my email address and I got a message on the screen saying I had been removed.

Skins Fan - no connection to Eagle Ridge for me - we're Hillside.

You have the option of showing your email address or not on the forum. This is configured in your user profile. The forum allows communicating between users without showing your email address at all - sharing your email via the forum can only be done at the user's choice.

FWIW (as a non-resident of Loudoun County), this "Concerned Citizens of Broadlands" organization seems to be a sham--it was originally run by an Inova employee and is now run by an Inova-funded attorney/lobbyist and her employee (neither of whom appear to be Broadlands residents).

Moreover, the so-called "supporters" list is clearly a joke.

The members of the Board of Supervisors are not stupid. Anyone with even minimal presentation skills should be able to provide this information to the BOS, and you would hope that the BOS would give CCB (and its arguments) the credibility it deserves (which, IMO, is little-to-none).

If I were on the BOS, I would consider CCB as nothing more than a paid arm of Inova--the only BRMC opposition to which I would accord any weight would be actual Loudoun residents that showed up at Board meetings or who wrote letters to the BOS. I would give the "supporters" list no weight whatsoever.

    Pats_Fan,

I am not the only taking notes on this sham. I can't wait to follow the litigator Rhonda Pace present the "list". :rtfm:

I may be the first in line but I won't be the last in line to "enlighten" the BOS.
