    Believe it or not, in my former career, I had a customer call to complain about a malfunctioning Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) fob:

    Customer: Yeah, I need a new RKE, mine doesn't work anymore when I press the buttons.

    Me: Well, there is the possibility it just needs a new battery. Why don't you drive in to the dealership and we'll see if we can get it working again.

    Customer: (pretty miffed by now) I JUST TOLD YOU MY RKE ISN"T WORKING!! I CAN"T EVEN UNLOCK THE CAR, HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP!?!?

    Me: Um, ma'am, you could unlock the driver's door manually with the key....

    Customer: (long pause) ....Oh, OK...right...thanks.

    Actually - this has me thinking. The door lock door plungers in the Volvo are the kind you CAN'T pull up & I do not recall if pulling the interior handle releases them!

    My Land Rover had this capability of "triple" locking so that without the remote no one could get OUT of the vehicle.

    I don't understand why LR would include such capability unless it is to make it easier to lock people in and push the vehicle in to the water. :)

    But in any case, if you triple locked the LR and your fob died, you had to break a window. Not a very good design but there were many things I did not like about the LR.
