So Thursday night, wife complains internet is down. I get home, go check, no 'online' link on the modem. Figure its an outage.. it will go away eventually. Go away for weekend, come home tonight.. still no cable modem. Go through the normal dance, nothing. So I call tech support, he does his thing, then says they have to send someone out. Fine. (this is about after 20mins on hold). First available date.. 9/2/04!! WTF is that! This is an OUTAGE, not a 'how are you doing call'. So tomorrow they call to schedule.. but if they don't offer something within 24-48hrs.. I'm sticking the mean wife on them. 3 weeks is not absurd.. its flat out STUPID.

They tell you three weeks because they know it's on thier end and it'll be fixed before the scheduled maint. appointment. I never got a appointment less than two weeks from the date I called, but the modem always came back on it's own after, at the longest, 4 days.

Our street is down (Autumnwood Sq). We've already called and spoken to the not so helpful techs. Techs tried to tell several of us that it was a problem on our end. I don't think so!! We have an appt for Aug 31, but they better have this outage taken care of by then. Several of us have already called and gotten credits for the outage. If they don't get this up by Friday, I will be calling for more $$ back. This is ridiculous.

It's always 'a problem on your end'. The techs never see anything, even the level 2 folks. Don't call for a credit until it's back up, then call and get credit for the entire outage. If you call every two days and ask for the previous two days credit, it'll end up in billing hell and you probably won't get anything.

It's been a couple years, but these 2-4 day outages used to be the norm...at least one a month. They've gotten better recently...so just stick it out and enjoy lousy customer service, complaining and yelling gets you nowhere with Adelphia, just a credit.

Just keep tabs on the dates of the outages, then when you get the bill, drive down to the office (I think theymoved to just across from MCI) with the bill and tell them you want credit for these days outage. Its easier and cleaner (no billing mess) to do it in person. Plus, if others are in line behind you, they dont want you to get too upset and yell, cause it looks bad to the other customers, so they usually give you what you want.
I had a 1 day outage last week and that was probably the first outage Ive had all year. But if you talked to me about a year ago, it was a really different story. They had outages that would last days and even when service was working it was horribly slow with severely high latency. They have gotten much much better, but there is still ample room to improve. I couldnt imagine having no internet these days, I live on it.

Here is a little something that is making progress. Its a product that is supposed to be much much better than wi-fi internet. I found this online....

anyone else heard of this technology. its a first for me.

Here is a tip, I know it's a bit out of the way but the best thing is not to call the 800 number. You get some stupid tech generally up in new york that has no idea what's going on. What's worse is they have no idea what's going on with the local company down here. I've had on many occasions appointments that no one ever showed up. Worst of all they were generally "all day" appointments on a week day. Needless to say that means I have to stay home from work. After much pain with this I finally decided to go to the adelphia office in sterling (I know they moved, not sure where). When I got there I complained about what had happened and they said they never got the ticket for them to come out to my house. They were very nice though and after a few minutes I had a scheduled, timed, appointment that was convienient to me ,not them, the next day and they were out to fix it and everything was great. Every time I had a problem after that I went to the office and if not the same day the next day they were out to fix it. If you try to get the number to them you won't be able to find it. It's unlisted and the people at the 800 number won't give it to you. Your only alternative is to go in but that's much better than waiting on hold with those stupid techs anyday.

I'd call Adelphia back and talk to someone else. When my cable line was cut leading to my house during the contruction days, the tech told me that's considered an emergency. An emergency gets you a tech at your front door within 48 hours.

They called today from the local. They claim there are 'lots of outtages' right now and they haven't narrowed down why. The lady even claimed 'sometimes its up and then its right back down and they don't know why'. Sounds like they really have a handle on it. Ha!

Right now they claimed they could get someone here on Friday, which I can't do, so they gave me Monday (23rd). (but yes.. the dreaded all day appointment), so hopefully they can figure it out.

tigger, glad to hear its just not me. I'm on autumnwood as well. I was curious if John or Eric were down as well. One of the boxes is right behind me, I should check to make sure no kids got in there and muck'd stuff up.

I'm suprised they even scheduled someone to come out after they acknowledged 'there are lots of outages right now'. I guarantee you'll never see a technician...they'll call you on the same day and tell you your appointment has been cancelled because it was determined by engineers to be an internal problem.

They've been up and down since late last week for me. I called them on Monday after it went up and down three times durring the day. They gave me the whole `it's your router' but even the PC that had the direct connection to the modem didn't work. At least I still have the other over priced IDSL connection.

Take a look on DSLreports. There's lots of people in Ashburn who are upset about these outages. It's not just here in the Broadlands.

I've also been down since Thursday. I'm off Vestals Gap. Is DSL available in Broadlands? I've been calling Adelphia daily. It's fun to talk with the tech support. During my last call, the tech actually laughed when I told him that I've been down for days.

Only IDSL and it's expensive and slow. On the upside it's MUCH more stable.

Complain to Verizon about DSL. They don't seem to think there's a market for it here and our RT isn't setup for DSL. Verizon has been turning on RT's with remote DSLAMS but they haven't reached us yet. And with the push to Fios I wonder if we're going to be forgotten since they're rolling Fios to areas that already seem to have DSL. The VP for Verizons residential and small business markets lives in Fairfax. Google him and send him a letter.

Another option would be to get a few people together and go for a T1 (or fractional T1) but you're not going to get speeds over 1.5mbps but you'll have an SLA (something Adelphia isn't offering even on the business service).

yup.. we're back online too. Thanks!

For the record, since I've been online with adelphia (only about 4+ months) this is the first outtage that has lasted of any duration. I think we've had 2 or 3 in the range of an hour or two, but never of any impact. The service has actually been pretty good up to this point.. and speeds are great.

Even though I was not affected by this latest outage, I've not had outages of more than an hour or two, and usually around 1 AM in the morning.

Has anyone figured out the areas that were affected? As I mentioned, I'm on Marsh Creek and had no idea that others were down.
