I am considering applying for a job in Alexandria on rt 7, not far from 395. Does anyone from Broadlands currently commute to that area?

Unless you have an HOV buddy or can travel during non HOV times don't do it! Okay I take that back. I commute to Crystal City and leave before HOV, it takes me 45 minutes. Home with HOV buddy - 1.5 hours on a normal day. If I leave with HOV buddy in the morning during HOV hours, takes me 1 hour to get to work. If I use no HOV buddy home 1.5 hours odd that I leave later and still takes same time.

Record commute 3 hours from exit 6 Greenway - to Fairfax County Parkway where I turned around and came back home during the famous untreated ice storm morning.

Honestly it is the times you will be traveling. IF there is an accident all bets are off. Traffic on Friday is also much worse. Takes me 2 hours most of this is spent on 495 and 50 (I do not use 395 - but it will back up to Shirlington by 3:30 on Fridays and to King Street by 3:30pm on normal days).

I used to commute from Broadlands to Old Town. I will never do that again. There were times when I broke the land speed record and got to Old Town in 50 minutes, but that was very rare. I averaged 1.5 hour commute in each direction. I wouldn't wish that commute on my worst enemy. Bottom line...don't apply unless you can work from home or plan on moving.

More of my two cents... I am looking for a job closer to home - I have had it as well.

    I would recommend you:

    1) Find a new job with a better commute.
    2) Live closer to that area (Alex, Arl, Shirlington, Fairlington, B.C.R).

Unfortunately no direct route from Ashburn. My route was Toll Rd to I66, exit off on N Fairfax Dr and take Rt27 towards Pentagon City and then take 395 to Rt7. To me this was shorter than going to 110 by the pentagon and then taking 395 or cutting thru Tysons and taking rt7 all the way to 395. In clear traffic this commute would take me about 45 mins from Broadlands. My girlfriend lives at this intersection. In rush hour about 1.5-1.75 hours.

Thanks to everyone for their responses. We have thought about moving closer in, but everything we come up with on the real estate sites doesn't come close to comparing to what we have now. Plus we are happy w/ our current daycare. My husband works in Ballston, so I could ride all but 5 miles with him, which would help, I guess. However, my current commute each way is a total of 5 miles, so I'm kind of spoiled. The position would be a promotion and a nice raise, wh/ whould be nice, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

    Thanks again!
