There's another phone scam operation; caller claiming to be from the IRS and demanding a return phone call to discuss with Live Agent, all the associated threats of penalties, court action, incarceration, etc.. Phone disconnects if answered, scam operators seem to be phishing for answering machines.

I called the Loco non-emergency police number to report the call and offer my number and assistance for investigative purposes. Our hard working civil servants are aware of the scam but are not taking any proactive steps to stop the crime, enforce the law or protect its citizens. (But they are camped out at our 4-way stops generating revenue). After politely asking for some action to be taken I was placed on hold, the dispatcher returned with the main number for the FTC and a curt goodbye.

Maybe it's not their responsibility for reasons that were not explained - always a kick in the pants to interact with totally apathetic public employees.

You're supposed to report it to the FTC, not the local police.

I'd be curt with you as well. Have you reported the Nigerian email scams we all get to your local police? :shakehead:
