We are planning to get ceiling fans installed in our bed rooms and wondering if anyone have any recommendation for ceiling fans installation service and rough idea as to how much it would cost.

    Thank you very much,

Do you have the wires already installed - the rough-in? If not, then the process of doing this could get very expensive. If you have an attic above the bedrooms, that could help make it easier...

If you do have the rough-in already there, you should do the fan installation yourself. I think just about everyone could do these projects. The quality of the instructions that come with the fans leaves a bit to be desired but they all generally install the same.

Not everyone.....I didn't feel comfortable about doing wiring and we had pre-wiring too....it was worth it to have an electrician do it.....but I'm not a handy person so - do whatever you feel comfortable with.

We just had Michael & Son out to do some electrical work and got an estimate for installing a fan in a bedroom (the whole thing, not just attaching a fan to an existing plate) and it was $260.

The technician was very nice and even let my three year old son "help".

yea I hear ya, I said just about everyone. People have different circumstances that would influence this greatly of course. And $260 for an installation and wiring sounds pretty reasonable... and depending upon how many rooms, not too bad overall.

Is installing fan something similar to installing chandeliers? If yes, then it will be good as I have installed chandelier in our DR.

Even I need to install a fan soon in our bedroom, but i wasn't sure if i could do that alone.

Yes installing a fan is similar to a chandelier and even has one less electrical connection (if your fan has a light kit). In my opinion, when I installed my chandelier, getting the chain to look right after crimping was the tough part (maybe my pliers were not well suited).

If you already have a pre-wire in the bedroom, then yes it is similar to installing a chandelier. You will be dealing with the same wires from the ceiling, typically a black, red, white and green. The instructions for the fan will tell you which one goes where (by color) and the variation is with a fan that has a light or not and how that is connected. Usually the light and the fan power wires are different - so you can control each separately from the switches on the wall. And if you can get on a ladder and hold about 5 pounds then I think you can do it. Just remember to turn off the electricity to that room!!!

Thanks for that info. Just saved a bunch of money, now I can use this to fix the problem with my AC.

yeah the hardest part is holding up the fan to wire it, but I know that Hunter's have a nice hook that you can hang the fan on and then be able to access to wiring, nut it up, and then fully mount it. I would only recommend Hunter (or Casablanca if you've got the $$) We've had bad experiences with Harbor Breeze/Hampton Bay (HD/Lowes house brands)

That hook makes all the difference. The first time I hung a fan it had the hook, but the instructions didn't mention it so I didn't know to use it. We only had one ladder, and the fan was over the bed. We piled a stool on a chair on the bed so that my wife could try to balance there and hold the fan while I did the wiring. That was 15-20 years ago, and to this day we look back and laugh at ourselves for how silly that was. I think if there was a photo of that moment, we could run for world's biggest idiots.

I agree - Hunter Fans are so quiet and that was important to me...a noisy fan can ruin a night's sleep for me!

We like Hunter too - however we also installed several Regency Fans and love them - they can be found at most lighting stores or online - http://www.regencyfans.com/

For install - we used Ashburn Electric (Regency require extra support for the weight) install w/ ceiling support and hardwired to the wall cost us $225
