We're thinking of heading out that way for a weekend next month. Anyone have any suggestions about the area? Where to stay? Where to eat? Don't have to worry about kids or pets.

Look at The Woods - www.thewoods.com and see if it might be something that your looking for. It's a great weekend getaway. It's not right in Berkeley Springs, but just a short drive away.

If you like hiking, Cacapon State Park is very close by. If you want a rustic cabin, (but with modern amenities) you can stay there also.

Being a West Virginia native :eww: I've been to Berkeley Springs a ton of times. It's an ok little town--lots of antique shops. I've stayed at the Country Inn and it was ok. Very old, very quaint and the spa was actually pretty good. I've been to Cacapon State Park and it is just that, a state park. No frills but it is located on a beautiful chunk of land with so many trails for hiking and a nice golf course and a swimming pool. There's even a game room downstairs in the basement with all the old school video arcade games (Ms. Pac Man or Galaga anyone???). I've never had the food there but I hear it's just ok.

If you're looking for a little place to stay out that way and don't mind driving a little further up the road, I would recommend Rocky Gap Lodge in Cumberland, MD. It's much nicer and newer and there are a lot of things to do out there (skiing, hiking, boating, sporting clays). I like it a lot more than Berkley Springs and it's only about 30 to 45 mins more.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks, we'll look into all these places. The antique shops and hiking sound good ... actually it all sounds good, especially since it's been a long time since we've been somewhere on our own, without any thought to the kids!
