Anyone know what's going on at the A-Plus? A few minutes ago there were police with guns drawn and some people getting handcuffed.

It was shortly after swim practice ended at 8:15pm - I heard about it when my swimmer got home. He saw people lying on the ground with handcuffs on, police with bullet proof vests on and one with a mask on as well.

This occurred right after the band concert at Eagle Ridge last night. We were picking up take out from Cafe Opera when this first happened. There were at least 4 young adults in the car (they looked like they were in their late teens -- maybe early twenties) and two unmarked police SUVs had them sandwiched in -- pressing their SUVs against the front and back of the car to ensure that the car was not going to go anywhere. There were at least two other police cars there that had dogs with them. All officers had vests on. Needless to say, my children and I were very scared. At the same time, there was a man and a young boy riding their bikes right around the area where the police had their weapons drawn. We were all looking but didn't want to hang around too long in case something went wrong. Thank goodness that on that particular night, the shopping center wasn't crowded at all.

I've got a call in to the Sheriff's office. I'll let you know if I get a response.

Heard back. One person was taken into custody. There was a a warrant out for his arrest due to nonfailure to appear in court. Due to the nature of his alleged offense, some precautions were taken in his apprehension.

I drove by right as the 2 unmarked SUV's ran into the car from the front and the rear all of the deputies were wearing ski masks and narcotics t-shirts and all of that for a warrant? ya right under cover narcotics deputies and a K9 unit searching the car and serveral people saying that the 2 unmarked SUV's were driving around the neighbor hood 20 min before this happend this had to have been planned and not just a simple warrant. the sheriffs office isnt telling the whole story

Actually, that's pretty standard practice depending on what type of warrant was out for this perp. If he/she/they had priors involving narcotics, firearms, etc, I can see the following scenario (this is just a scenario, not necessarily what actually happened or the reason for what happened):

Officer notices a vehicle driving around and does a routine run on the plates. Comes back with a positive hit and notes that the perp has outstanding warrants and some pretty serious priors. He/she calls in for support and they tail the perp's vehicle until he/she stops in an area where he/she can safely be 'apprehended'. Narcotics is involved since his/their priors dealt with drugs; as such they want to, and should, search everything. Since there were 4 persons in the vehicle, I can understand why so many law enforcement resources would be called in for support. Masks are standard practice for many narcotics officers who deal with undercover work on a day to day basis. Same with the vests, etc.

So, to make a long story short, even though it's a 'warrant' stop, law enforcement needs to take as many precautions to protect themselves as well as the residents. And because of 'priors', possibly violent and drug related charges in the past, I would expect them to do a full search of the vehicle and perps.

I prefer to see 'overkill' situations such as these instead of having a high-speed chase in our streets.
