    Mr. Rogers and others--

I guess with the "mortgage mess" we shall see more realtor "road spam" signs. Ugh!:( Just my 2 cents.

    Have a good night--

And just think of all the signs that go in to landfills when they are pulled out and disposed of.
It is expensive for businesses, I cant believe they get enough sales out of road spam to justify the cost of printing their signs, putting them up, then losing them when I pull them out and throw them away!

So, can we pull up the signs? There was an article in the newest Car and Driver about a guy that did this and he was arrested and fined. Isn't it littering?

Any of these signs in the VDOT right-of-way are illegal. I would love to see someone try to "prosecute" you for removing illegally placed signs. They would be admitting to breaking the law themselves when they put them there.
I have had some sign owners threaten me with legal action when I tell them that I remove the signs and throw them out. I tell them that I welcome the opportunity to see them in court over this.

This is also one of my hot buttons. I have been in contact with VDOT, the sheriff's office, and members of the Board of Supervisors.

When you see signs, send emails with the offending companies name to the following group:

    Donald.Riley@VDOT.Virginia.gov - VODT
    Farid.Bigdeli@VDOT.Virginia.gov -VDOT
    Gaby.Hakim@VDOT.Virginia.gov -VDOT
    jburton@loudoun.gov -Loudoun BOS
    lcso@loudoun.gov - Sheriff General Email
    Franklin.Gee@loudoun.gov - Officer Gee
    jeplowman@aol.com - County Prosecutor

It is indeed illegal for a resident to remove the signs unless they are on your property, or you are a member of the Adopt-a-Highway program. Technically, you are trespassing on VDOT property, but my guess is that VDOT would not press charges for helping them clean up trash.

I have spoken with Officer Gee and he was going to contact the community officer assigned to Ashburn. It may also be a good idea to bring this up at the HOA Board meeting when the Sheriff's office is present.

If we all band together and flood the above folks with email of these signs, they may actually do somethign about it. VDOT has been very responsive to my requests, but this is a band aid approach. I want to see the county prosecute these companies.

Maybe the HOA should adopt all the roads in Broadlands and then give the residents free reign to clean up the "trash".

We're working on it! We have Claiborne from Greenway to Waxpool, and Waxpool from Claiborne to Truro Parish.

So, do the residents have permission to remove all non-broadlands related signage?

Technically, only the HOA has the "authority" from VDOT to remove the signs from the VDOT right-of-ways that the HOA has "adopted."
    That's the technically correct answer..........

What is the story with the Van Metre "A Frame" on Broadlands Blvd. Do they have a special exemption from the rules that apply to other community businesses?

Did you ever think that trying to get answers from Van Metre is like trying to get water from a stone ?? I remember when we used to ask about this or that, and always got the .. in the next month or so.

However, I suspect that the sign is on Van Metre owned commercial property, and thus the HOA has no authority to remove it.

What about those Nylon signs now posted on the 4x4 posts. They are everywhere and they look absolutely bad. It's like a half-a**ed realator trying to drum up business.

    It's bad.
