    Attention all broadlands residents:
Please be on alert about possible break-in's. My neighbors house had an attempted entry on thursday night or friday night when they were not home, please lets all try to be a little more alert of things like this so that we can keep our neighborhood safe. Luckily they had an alarm and the sheriff thinks that scared them off but basically someone busted up their fence gate with a crow bar trying force entry, we were home and heard nothing(of course we don't really know what time it happened.) Just thought everyone would want to know that this kind of thing happened in our neighborhood. We live in the south town houses near the pool!

A "home invasion" is a burglary of a dwelling when the residents are at home, typically using force to gain entry with the attempt to commit felony or larceny often by assault, while a "attempted break-in" is a burglary when the structure is not occupied. Sort of a robbers v burglars. While the goal is the same for either, the final outcome can be life or death.

Distinction without a real difference. Either way a home invasion occurs.

...um that's way too close for comfort, thinking I am now going to set the alarm while we are home as well.

Distinction with a difference (life or death). Burglary and robberies are treated differently as crimes - so the goal is the same but the risk of bodily harm accelerates with a home invasion.

I think a home invasion shows intent of the criminal to do the residents bodily harm. Someone who breaks in when they think nobody is home is more likely to be looking to steal stuff without a struggle.

A home invasion is much scarier because it implies that the criminals prefer a fight and are willing to use force. Big difference in my opinion but either one is cause for concern.

Any news as to whether this was an isolated event or a part of a spree? Obviously it's scary; nonetheless, however, if the individuals were targeted for whatever reason, it lessens the fear of a spree that can impact a greater majority. Either way, perfect reminder for all to be vigilant in protecting their homes/families. Best wishes of safety to all!

Carry a gun, becuase (1) cops are too heavy, and (2) when seconds count, cops are still minutes away.

Agree, home invasion is very broad, the intent to commit any crime. Burglary is a narrower subset.

Either can have a very bad ending.

It may be correct, as "home invasion" is not legally defined as a crime at the federal level.

Most states also do not define home invasion as a crime.

I think what JJB meant was that there was nothing reported in the area mentioned by the original poster in the past 2 weeks. So either the crime was never reported, the information still has not made it through the 'feed', or the original information was inaccurate.
