I know the afternoons are hell getting out of Brambleton on Belmont Ridge to Evergreen Mills and then on Gum Springs to Rt. 50. What is the traffic like during the morning rush?

It depends on what you consider "rush" hour. I go to Chantilly that way (except I do not turn at Gum Springs, I continue onto LCP) every morning. I leave my house between 6:45 and 6:50 and I get to work (near 28/Willard around 7:15. Leaving much later than 7 adds additional commute time in part due to school buses. There is a bus that stops on Evergreen Mills at about 4 different houses that I avoid by leaving when I do.

Honestly, the worst and heaviest traffic is on 50 between South Riding and Stonecroft.
