Anyone know what happened to Big Bowl at Dulles Town Center? I was at the mall last week, and noticed it was closed up. The mall site and Big Bowl site no longer list it that location. I even checked the VA Dept of Health site to see if it have been close for code reasons, nothing there either.

Don't know why, but it's been closed since before July 4. We were there for fireworks and noticed then that it had closed. I think the mall information desk told us that it had been closed a week or two at that point.

We asked some folks in the mall a while back. They told us that the Dulles Town Center management office made Big Bowl leave because there were too many issues with people drinking and then going out into the mall. The story seemed a little fishy to us - especially as it didn't seem like a big drinking bar type of place. Now, underage drinking issues I could probably understand a little better. Anyhow, thought I'd pass this along. Maybe someone else knows the real story. BTW, the Reston Town Center location is still open.

Ah, but htey're getting a BBQ joint. Of course, I don't know how any BBQ in a food court could be good, but I am rather BBQ deprived up here.

The Big Bowl ran out of business. I had a frined who worked there as a management person, and she said, the business went down more than 60% since the Wegman's opened, so they had to close the restaurant.. just wasn't making enough money to keep the door open... The one is Reston is still open, I think,, :)

I had actually heard that some Mexican place had bought out Big Bowl but that the one in Reston wasn't going to change because of the Rio Grande across the street. Not sure how reliable my source was though.

Big bowl is owned by Brinker International .. which also owns Romano's Macaroni Grill and Chili's .... However, I think they might franchise these resturants .... not 100% sure about that ...

So one in Dulles Town center could have been owned by an individual ...

Brinker doesn't franchise -- the Big Bowl at Dulles Town Center was company owned. As for BBQ, there's a Red, Hot& Blue just up Route 7 in Leesburg.

I personally like Dave's Famous Barbeque! Love that Devil's Spit! There's also Texacan over by MCI, but I still enjoy Dave's the best and Texacan is only take out.

I am a big Texacan fan too. You can buy their bulk meat at Wegmans much cheaper than you can at the actual Texacan store!

Acknowledging that BBQ is on a par with politics and religion, I'm a native Floridian. If it isn't pit cooked, before the sauce is added, it ain't BBQ. RH&B is unpredictable (I like their brunswick stew, though). Texacan is excellent. Dave's does weird things to all the sides (horseradish in the slaw, peppers in the beans). I miss O'Briens. I really miss Fat Man's; but that was a local joint at home. I've had to swear them all off though, because they can't/won't give me sufficient content info for my newly discovered food allergies.
