I have never stepped foot in a Food Lion or bloom. Is bloom just your typical grocery store, or is it worth a trip?

Where I grew up all that was in town was Food Lion ... since moving to bigger and better places I choose to go to better stores. Back in the 90s foodlion was busted for using bleach to make their hamburger "look" better...so I have not really liked them since.

My wife really likes the Bloom. She didn't care much for Food Lion. She likes the little handheld scanners you can use to scan each item when you put it in your cart.
Really cuts down on the overcharging of scanned items when you normally check out.

Bloom is Food Lion with lower shelves, better lighting/signing, and more private label merchandise than any other grocery store around.

It reminds me of thaa saying about judging a book from its cover, only the opposite of its original meaning!

Or a bionic pig. That place is like Food Lion with a 5-10% upcharge for "cool" technology... Handheld self checkout scanners, recipe machines, etc...

    Their cupcakes are excellent though.

bottom line - go see for your self. I think it is 10 times better than Food Lion, but that is not saying much. It is worth a look I think. Prices are a mixed bag but decent consistent with quality.

Still cheaper than Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter, Wegman's....
I'll stick with Shoppers Food Warehouse

Precisely. I actually *LIKED* the old Food Lion -- not as an alternative to other grocery chains (as noted in another thread, I am a grocery junkie and shop EVERYWHERE), but as a complement to the full-service stores. Food Lion was straightforward, had cheap regular prices, offered great discounts on their weekly sale items, and were consistent in every possible way. I used to shop there 1 to 2 times per week, but I've been to Bloom only twice since the conversion... and I was not impressed on either visit. This facelift has introduced higher prices and complexities I could do without (e.g., funky aisles that require you to zig-zag around the store). Traditional, average, reliable... that was Food Lion.

Aldie Grocery right now the closest down by Woodbridge.

Funky kind of store, not real big but talk about prices. Nobody can beat their everyday prices. Great quality even tho most of you would be scared to even walk in. :)

I was having a small dinner party for some very special clients. We were going to cook as one of the dishes a chicken dish know as alamo chicken very colorful and everytime you bite into it there are little explosions of taste. Anyway I told Dalyn to buy the expensive chicken at wegmans since this was a special dinner. I could not believe it when we cooked it with the much cheaper aldie's chicken it was always juicy tender and the wegmans this night was a little stringy and a bit tougher although not bad, it was not worth the extra price.

Aldie's rocks!!! :D I have been trying to get them to build one out here, no luck yet for the near future.

Another wonderful store down in Woodbridge is Global Market.

Of course the only reason we even shop down there is Dalyns Sisters live in the area it is a little far to go if you had no reason to go down there.

But if in that area check out those two grocery stores one kind of small and funky the other large and very international. We need both out here.
