What's the best place for breakfast tacos around here? Is Anita's any good? My husband's from Dallas, and we lived in Austin for years, so breakfast tacos and migas are something we miss. I'm dying to try the Austin Grille (any thoughts?), but I'd love suggestions for things closer by.

While we're at it, does anyone have good fish tacos?

You will be sorely disappointed with any breakfast tacos around here. Austin Grill is good, but not really Tex-Mex. Good fish tacos are hard to find, although I find the ones at Cheesecake factory fairly good (if you order them without the chipoltia mayo). I'm from Austin, so most of the Southwest cuisine in this area is disappointing to me. La Laurial in D.C. Is pretty good though.

However, putting the Tex-Mex Aside, the area is abundent with great Thai, Mediterianian, and other choices I was never exposed to living in Texas, so while Southwest food is marginal, their are so many other great choices, I hardly miss it.

In Ashburn Anita's would be your best opportunity for breakfast tacos. As far as other Mexican food goes, it may not be authentic but Uncle Julio's Rio Grande Cafe is our favorite. There may be some local Mexican restaurants with good food but it depends on whether you want tex-mex or real Mexican. We don't have a favorite yet and we came here from Texas in 1998. :(

Austin Grille is okay but I wouldn't be overly excited about it. My husband likes Cactus Cantina in DC.

I used to live right by La Lauriol when I was in my early 20s! It was before I moved to TX, though, so I only went there a few times.

Okay, if you're from Austin, here's what I want-- Trudy's, Hula Hut, Magnolia, and especially Kerbey Lane :) I had my husband bring me migas tacos and gingerbread pancakes from Kerbey Lane twice while I was in the hospital having my son!

Don't know how long ago you lived in Austin, but Mad Dogs and Beans, which I understand is now the parking lot for a Starbucks, go figure!! Also Fajitas and Mega Margaritas at the Hyatt on the Lake! Darn now I'm just HUNGRY!!

I lived there from 2002-2007, and I haven't heard of those places. My husband lived there from 1994-2007, so he probably has.

So many Austinites in Ashburn! :)

I never actually lived in Austin, I went to The University of North Texas
'85-'89, but my boyfriend, at the time, went to UT so I spent a great deal of time in Austin! Great City!!!

This summer I was in the financial district in NYC and came across Mag Dog and Beans (a tex-mex cantina). So while it wasn't anything like the real thing, there had to have been a UT grad in that equation somewhere.

Had Kerbey migas two weeks ago in Austin. Still the BEST!

Hero, I'm so jealous of you getting to go to Kerbey! Which one did you go to? The one near 38th was always my favorite.

I liked the one off of Lakeshore (West of MOPAC) across from Deep Eddie pool and the U.T. Housing area. Great Late night spot.

That's my favorite as well. But I was staying up northwest, so I cheated and hit the one off 183. It wasn't 38th street, but the migas were still GREAT. You know, regardless of the spot, the food never fails.

I'll rub it in a bit further and tell you I also hit the Crown and Anchor after going to Kerbey's. Oh, and I ate at Chuy's yesterday. :)
