Has a nice ring to it, yes? With KaosDad & Brassey as your proprietors.

So - Virginia is finally thinking of privatizing the liquor stores - mind you just thinking about it. It would be a one time shot in the arm as they auction off the current locations, licenses, and inventories. A short time trickle as new licenses are sold, but beyond that, what?

I haven't really seen if this would also mean the end of the absurd amount of tax we pay on the booze - if you want to see the difference, find a friend in the military and have them price a bottle of your favorite on base then compare to any store in MD, DC or VA. Unless they do that there is not alot of room for competitive pricing.

Another consideration is will VA give the leeway to booze stores that they do not wine shoppes? For example - would Kaos' Temple for Tipplers be allowed to host tastings? If not - there goes yet another avenue for stores to distinguish themselves and just continue as we are now.

If this all comes to pass not certain if I'll try for the existing ABC store by Safeway, or try & open new store in that wine shoppe spot by Fosters.

Did you ask about frequent buyer cards? :partydrink:

I'm all for dismantling the state run liquor stores - but I haven't seen enough details on this plan to know if they plan on doing anything except trying to sell the existing stores to licensees to raise cash in a one time thing. I doubt they'd play with the taxes at all. And without other law changes, it probably will not mean any better access (like longer store hours), etc.

It might just all be a papershuffle with cash in the state's pocket.

It should be like it is in New Jersey, where I can get my mega pack of paper towels with my Vodka and Rum at the Costco.

I loved it when I lived in Chicago. Just one trip to the Jewel and my food and alcohol needs were met. :)
