I was driving home from work this evening up Chickacoan, and I saw 3 different trash cans with wheels broken off lying next to the can. What's up with that? Trash man had a bad day? I was half expecting to find mine the same way, but luckily it was intact.

You're lucky. Ours have been broken off twice by the trash company. We just keep calling and asking for new trash cans.

I think really that the small brown ones they give us are cheap. My hubby just broke ours last weekend! (Yes, that would be #3.)

Have you ever seen the way the trash guys throw the cans back down from the truck? It's no wonder why they are all breaking. Ours broke a couple months ago. During the 4th week of waiting for one to be delivered, I sent them another email saying that their customer service was very similar to Comcast's -- theirs is pretty bad, too. I got my can 2 days later.

I've had 2 broken as well. Just call for new cans. They need to take it easy or supply better cans.

When you call to get your can replaced, what's the process? Do they just drop off a new one? Do they pick up the old one? If they pickup the old/damaged one, do you just leave it outside for them to take away? If you don't know when they'll come, could you not get cited for leaving your trashcan outside on non pickup days?

I have a can that would need to be replaced; I'm just looking for the correct 'process'...

New Horizon told me the actual day that they'd be delivering the new can, so I just left the old one out that same day for them to pick up. Not sure what would happen otherwise, i.e., if I didn't know the correct day for delivery. You can call NH or email them. I'm not sure of the site, but it's listed on the trash cans. Good luck with getting a new one!

You know, you often think they have an icky job and feel bad for them but have you seen what they get paid??? Apparently it's a good gig to have financially. Even if your job is picking up trash you should have pride in your work and not break the cans. Kind of a waste environmentally, too.

Yes, cans break but they are built to take a beating.

Try hoisting hundreds of heavy cans a day and then gently lower them to the ground. "We" would start dropping them too as lowering the bins gently requires additional effort/strength and it takes longer to do it.

No, I have no problems with these workers dropping the cans back to earth, just try not to do it on the wheels.

But just imagine how macho they look if they have the strength to set it down gently! :p

I'm usually home when the trash gets picked up and I've seen the way the cans are handled. Dropping them down would be acceptable, but sometimes they actually throw them (not overhanded, which would be cool) and that is a problem. We have New Vision and they're better about it than AAA Recycling was.

Well, "we" would not drop it because "we" couldn't lift it in the first place. And of course by "we" I mean "I". ha ha ha
