We had a great turn out today and we saw a lot of new faces!

If you didn't have a chance to make it in today, we will be holding evaluations tomorrow (Sunday) at the same times.

If you're unable to attend, please call the gym to schedule a private evaulation for team placement.

My daughter is a cheerleader with the Angels. It's smaller then that of Legacy, but they have a solid program and the teams do well in competition. 2 of the teams will be at World's in Baltimore tomorrow (good luck girls! :D ).

My daughter absolutely loves being a part of the gym (which is just off Sycolin next to the Leesburg airport for those of you who are unfamiliar with it) and she's made many friends there. You should definately come to the gym to check it out if you're interesting in registering your child in a cheer program.

My daughter cheered for years. I always worried about injuries. I really think this sport needs to figure out something to make things safer.

Well, my daughter has been doing this for several years and she's a flyer, so she always getting tossed around in the air. She has never sustained an injury.

I think it all comes down to the quality of the coaching staff. Some coaches tend to push their girls beyond their limits and some just aren't qualified or experienced enough to coach at certain levels. But accidents can happen in any sport (my son got hit in the mouth by a baseball during a game). Cheerleading can be safe if the coaches know what their doing.

With competitive cheering, they cheer on a spring floor/mat. I know school cheerleading has them performing on gym floors, which I think can be very dangerous.

I don't want anyone to get me wrong, my daughter loved cheering, and I was always excited to see her perform and
    "cheer" her on.

I think there have been recent reports saying cheering has the highest injury rates of any sport. My reason for pointing this out is that I always worried about my daughter. Especially when she got into H.S.

I think you're right it comes down to good coaching. Unfortunately, I think the good coaching was always at the varsity level and not at the J.V. and Freshman level.

Yes, it is always a bit nervewracking seeing girls tossed in the air or even doing their own backhandsprings/tucks on the floor but I agree that quality coaching is a HUGE element. Most any sport (including cheerleading) comes with risk and it is especially important to properly prepare and avoid reckless activity.

For those unfamiliar with competitive cheering programs such as the local All Star Angels, All Star Legacy or Cheer Dynasty (formerly known as Cheer Madness): They compete (roughly 1-2x per month ~October-April) against other cheer teams locally or regionally....~2.5 minute choreographed cheer routines much like dance/drill team routines but with 'gymnastic' extras.
These programs do not use pom poms or cheer for sport teams in the area.

Our daughter, (at Cheer Madness--known as Cheer Dynasty as of May 1), practices 6+ hours per week at the gym on the spring board floor and professional gym equipment. Personally, I do still worry (as there is always the possibilty of an accident) but after being with the program for the past 3+ years we are confident the coaches are in tune with the girls and each of their talents and skill levels.

She is our oldest (age 10) and I am not experienced with any type of training, coaching or equipment that high school cheer teams currently use these days so I cannot speak educated on that topic, though I know I would worry even more if she was being tossed around on a high school gym floor or outdoor football field.

Again, most any sport does involve some level of inherent risk and concern but we've been impressed with the benefits involved too: Excellent exercise/fitness, discipline, team camaradarie and nice friendships.

By the way, Cheer Dynasty (Ashburn location), is having team placements this weekend. Check it out at www.cheerdynasty.com
And if you are not interested in one of the competitive teams, they do offer tumbling classes to prepare for teams or just to get some good exercise.
