Anyone know where to buy specialty items? I need crystallized ginger for a recipe, yes, I know I can make it, but does anyone know of somewhere close that might carry it? Foodie are you out there?? :)

Have you checked the spice aisle of a grocery store? That's where I got it when I needed it. (can't remember which one, though) McCormick sells it.

I'm pretty sure Trader Joe's in Reston has it, but you should call first. I'm willing to bet that Wegman's carries it as well.

I got some at Wegman's around Christmas-time in the International/Asian foods section - Asian Gourmet Crystal Ginger Slices. Never did get around to making the cookies for which I bought them.

    Tiny, Charlotte, and others--

    Greetings from the Grand Canyon--:D:D

The BEST places to buy crystallized ginger online are the following--

www.gingerpeople.com (Ginger People carries all types of crystallized ginger products, ginger candies, etc.)

www.nutsonline.com (Nuts Online great resource also for bulk foods, etc.)

www.dutchvalleybulkfoods.com (Dutch Valley Bulk Foods has fabulous bulk foods--this where the Amish/Mennonite markets purchases their bulk products from for their stores. Also, small or large amounts of crystallized ginger. They also have ginger sodas, etc. All types of Bulk Foods!:))

By the way--Charlotte--hello from the Grand Canyon. We just pulled in today to see the Skywalk and stay here for about another week before we head home. RV'ing out her with 6 kids and my sisters and their husbands with two RV(s) is fun and challenging!

Sorry we are going to miss the Happy Hour--:cheers:

    Foodie:D

    Have fun--

Thank you!! I must have walked right past it at Teeter. Wegman's said they have stopped carrying it...but Trader Joe's said they have it. I appreciate all the help!!

We order our spices from Penzeys. Not too expensive, but it's amazing the difference fresh spices can make.

I think I just saw it in the produce section (bulk acrylic bins) at Safeway.

Yes, gregbroadlands - totally agree about Penzey's. I stop at their store in Columbus, OH, whenever I'm there visiting family.

And - did you know that they're opening a store in Falls Church? It's been in the works for a while now (not longer than Dunkin' Donuts though!). There's one in Rockville, too.

I haven't been to the one in Rockville, but will try to get to Falls church (I didn't know about it). Good stuff!
