When I head into DC, I almost always take Metro. But, I'm going to a hockey game on Sunday and thought I might drive in. I've got two questions:

    1) Best way to get there - constitution to 7th and north? Whitehurst Fwy (K st) to 9th and then down? Others??

    2) Parking around Verizon Ctr. - the garage is $20. That's absurd. Anyone know about street parking on a Sunday afternoon (free, unlimited ??).

    Just curious on anyone's experiences....

I've always gone Constitution to 7th North. Parking is so dependant on the day, weather, event, etc. I'd say half of the times I've gone, I've been able to find street parking within 6 blocks of the Verizon Center. Other times...nothing even close. If you are going to watch hockey, you may be alone, so parking could be easy. :D

i know i'm late on this...but thought i'd offer it up. i always come across the bridge and dump off on the E St. Expressway. Hang the 1st left (20th?)..take that to K..and then go down K until it ends at 10th, and then there's a parking lot right around there after you turn right---ENORMOUS--never full. I paid $10 on Friday night to park there. all you do from there is walk a few blocks east (you can see the big china town arch), and then a block up from that is the back entrance to MCI. I'm done driving around for hours looking for parking. that parking lot is completely worth it.
