I know this is a question for an appliance repairperson but in case any of you know, I'll ask here.

The thermal fuse on my dryer has blown and it looks like it burned the end of the wire that was attached to it. If I replace the fuse can I trim the wire (if there is enough length to do so and have it still reach the fuse) and attach it to the new fuse? I can order a new fuse for about $20 but I don't know about the wiring and would prefer not to burn the house down. I'm funny like that.

Any advice on doing it myself? If not, any advice on a good repair place to call and have come out? Thanks in advance for any advice.

we had a washer issue recently and used http://www.prorepairappliance.com/

they were fast, ontime and efficient, but The Man was pretty ticked that it took only 30 seconds for a $100 repair! But there are coupons on their site so.... good luck!

I decided I didn't want to mess with ordering it and trying to fix it myself. I called Apple Appliance Repair and someone came out within 3 hours to fix it. Half an hour and $160 later the machine has a new thermal fuse and appears to be working fine.

Why pay repairmen the money when you can go online and see the diagrams to repair it yourself. My dryer fuse got blown three times in a row and I fixed it myself each time...Found out why it got blown each time...Had to call the vent guys to blow out the entire house vent system including dryer vent...Made all the difference!!! But learned a lot about how to repair and clean dryers...Very simple contraptions!!!

That was my plan but when I checked online, Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears did not carry thermal fuses. I would have had to order one. I did look up online how to fix it and knew I probably could do it myself. And since the wire was singed on the end I figured I'd pay a pro to do it so I can do laundry again. As it turns out, the guy didn't do much with the wire anyway but because there was bare wire exposed I wrapped some electrical tape around it. I hope the tape withstands dryer use and doesn't melt...

I did buy a leaf blower and blow out the vent system - that was cool.

Oh, and P.S. - I'm a chick so this blows away the Ashburn stereotype of fru-fru women who won't mess up their hair and nails. Or is that an Ashburn stereotype? Still...

you should be able to, but after the repair I would monitor it closely since the first fuse failed in an odd way. mad propz to you for doing it yourself =)

My husband thinks I'm being paranoid by keeping a close eye on the dryer now. The top near the back (above where the fuse is inside) gets very hot to the touch, even on low. So far two loads through the dryer and no issues but it's my nature to be obsessive about it. :p
