I remember what it's like to be a teen, and I grew up in Ashburn, so I know teens are bored and there is not too much to do around here, but...

I really don't understand why local teens and tweens are obsessed with starting fires around here! They are certainly old enough to know better, and it’s getting a bit scary and out of hand. We had 3 teens start a fire across the street from our home a few months ago (in plain open view of 5 homes). As it started to get big, they promptly ran off. My husband caught another group of teens starting a fire a couple weeks ago (in the same spot) and they also got scared, as the fire grew large, my husband ran over and put it out for them. And again today, we come home today to see a fire truck in front of our house because some more knuckleheads decided to start a fire. People can get hurt, property can get damaged, and this is really dangerous and seems to be a popular “sport” with our teens. I really hope these kids parents find out and give them a good lecture on how unsafe their “fun” can be, getting charged with arson is no joke, and you can’t take it back after someone loses their life or home.

What a bunch of knuckleheads. What area of Chickacoan ??

FWIW .. many states (and Virginia is one) have declared fire emergencies due to the tinder dry forests and woodlands.

They were warning about throwing cigarette butts out of cars last night, along with the news story about the fires on a island that took out a 100 year old restaurant. Fire was started by a lit butt.

It was the Lighthouse Restaurant in Solomons Island, Maryland (Southern Maryland/Calvert County). Really nice restaurant. I went a few times while in high school with my family.

Is that why there was a firetruck and two police cars on Chickacoan yesterday late afternoon?

Where are these fires being started? In the walking trail from Tithables to Chickacoan in the wooded areas?

Considering what they're doing in the first place, this is not inconsistant with their IQ levels. :screwy:

I've also noticed that the Boulder Glen Trail is starting to show signs of teenaged boredom. My small children like to climb on the large rock near the sign for Boulder Glen, but recently there's been a lot of broken beer bottles there.

Where the heck are these kids parents??
