Anyone know any areas where I can go do a little fishing locally. I don't have a boat, but I am going with some friends this weekend on the Potomac and I want to give my rod and reel a workout before Sunday, just to make sure It'll perform like I want it to.

My father used to take us to Fletcher's Boat House. We always had a blast.

    Re: Fishing places??

    Gun Ohna and others--

The Northern VA Regional Park Authority, which is a separate entity from Fairfax County and Loudoun County Parks and Rec, has alot of great regional parks. Actually, Algonkian Regional Park is not associated with Loudoun County Parks and Rec; but it has great fishing on the Potomac River.

Just check out their web site with informational links. When you click on the Fishing link, it will not list Algonkian offering fishing per se; but click on Algonkian Regional Park and it will direct you with information about fishing, etc. My husband has taken our sons to this park and they loved it.

www.nvrpa.org (Northern VA Regional Park Authority's site/info with links.)

    Good Luck--

    Foodie:)

I was out over the weekend with my son looking for a place to fish and just outside of the neighborhood (Mt. Hope Rd.) we came across a place on the bank of Beaverdam Creek Reservoir where you can put in small boat, canoe, or kayak and there are some trails through the woods also. Next time I'll bring tick repellent (they were everywhere - even the really little ones). No luck fishing from the bank, but I am considering purchasing a canoe now.

Are there any other nearby spots anyone can recommend for some shoreline fishing?

South Riding has some great ponds that have been well stocked over the years. My husband caught a 3lb bass this weekend with my sons. There is one over by Hutchinson elementary, then head towards the back of the development.

All of the ponds in the Broadlands have LM Bass and Brim. I have a couple of personal favorite ponds where I have NEVER seen another fisherman, so I'm not going to spoil my favorite spots by posting on the forum. Trust me, just try every pond. You may find your own new favorite.

Some of the lakes in the VILLAGE have great fishing!

ok but is it technically "legal" to fish in a pond in Broadlands as an adult? I want to take my 4 year old for an introduction to fishing and would love to do this close to home... I would have to help him but the idea is for him to try.

Technically adults needs a fishing license. Its about $12 bucks per year, can get it at Walmart or Dick's. I think all of the ponds in the Farm are catch and release and stocked. On our bike rides, we always see someone fishing the pond/lake in the Village that stretches all the way to from Ashburn Village Rd to Ashburn Rd.
