Good idea, but I'll stick to my XBOX 360. I was never really a fan of the Sony gaming systems.

    VA :)

Seriously, I'd like to have one, but I can't justify:

    1. the initial price of them
    2. price of accessories ($50 for a controller)
    3. price of games (~$60)

And there's no way (yet) to backup your games should your originals get scratched. :) I saw where someone installed linux on it and dumped a bluray iso to the HD, so they're making headway on that front.

I'll wait until the reverse engineers figure out how I can play my backups. :)

of course you know brim how large a blu-ray iso would be.... I do not see this as a workable solution when and if people want to do that. Maybe you could store 2 movies on the hard drive at once. Is that really helpful? Maybe someone will find this scenario useful, not sure.

I am sure with external storage hooked into the PS3 this could get easier to do, since 1 terabyte rigs are not that expensive to build. I tried playing iso images from my PC to the TV and did not like the results all that much either... but I do enjoy seeing the reverse engineers at work...

Well...the ISO of Madden was only 7gigs, so they're not utilizing the full capacity of the discs yet. As it gets older, I'm sure developers will take advantage of the extra storage they have to work with.

Also, the HD on the PS3 is replaceable...apparently it's plug and play, so all you'd need to do it pull it and replace it with a higher capacity 2.5" SATA drive. In addition to that, they've got an adapter that lets you hook a 3.5" drive to the internal bay.

All of this is assuming (hopefully) they'll figure out how to load/run games off of the HD. If you want to burn the iso back to a bluray disc, then the price skyrockets ($800-900 for a burner, $15-40/per for media). :(

I think there is a bigger problem that the games are worse on it then they are on the Xbox 360. Of all the games that are currently on both systems the winner has been the x-box. This is also just a bit sad.

I hope they get it worked out but at this point I'm holding off for another 6-12 months before I buy a new console to find out who wins. I don't think this time it will be sony with this kind of start.

Well, Sony really didn't get dev units to developers until really late in the product launch stages, so they weren't able to learn the system and take advantage of the features and power the unit is capable of. Given the short timetable they had to work with, developers probably just ported over what they had and didn't really optimize it for the Cell processor.

The PS3 is a superior machine hardware-wise, but Sony did a horrible job with the launch and pre-launch planning/support for developers. I think eventually, when devs get a real handle on what the thing is capable of, we'll see some ridiculous things on it.

But yah, I'm holding out, too...and also hoping I don't have to solder 24 tiny points again to get a chip in it. :)
