Gloucester Parkway to LCP open

Gloucester Parkway (from Marblehead Drive to LCP) is open.

Most ppl in Broadlands dont use that road anyway .. but I am guessing it will be of help to folks in Ashburn Village (myself included) and Ashburn Farms. If anything, it should (hopefully) reduce some of the congestion on Waxpool/Farmwell between Ice Rink and LCP (going East bound). Of course, all these folks are dumped back on Waxpool betwen LCP and 28..but that streach is a bit easier since the 3rd lane opens up.

 

I believe a lot of development in that area is on the horizon so at least they are dealing with some of the road issues ahead of time.

Does anyone know what the plans are for another way out of Wegman's? It looks like a road is being build from there out towards LCP, but I'm not sure.

 

Pacific Blvd is to be extended from Wegmans to Nokes (www.28freeway.com)

 

Do you know if the Pacific extension is part of the 28 Freeway project?

I knew they were planning to connect there and eventually go all the way to Russell Branch, but I didn't know we would get the first leg by next Fall. Gloucester parkway will also, eventually, connect with 28 at the Nokes Blvd interchange which should take pressure off of the Waxpool corridor as folks in the northern part of Ashburn will have another option to get to 28. They will also be able to get to Wegmans via the Gloucester to Pacific route.

As for Gloucester connecting to 28, there is no date that I've heard when it is set to be available. Originally a developer was going to do it, but last I heard the county voted against the development so everything has stalled.

 

Speaking of frustrating, when they were finishing the intersection of Gloucester and Loudoun County, they started paving south. I figured they would finally widen that ridiculous bottleneck near Redskins Park with the 25 mph speed limit. Wrong. Look for the Gloucester extension to 28 and the widening of the road to happen about the time the metro makes it to Ashburn.
