Hi, does anyone belong to GCF's Community Supported Agriculture CSA? I am investigating the option of getting fresh produce via the farm. Wanted to know the pros/cons of anyone who belongs to the CSA. There is also an option to have it delivered to your home. Wondered if there was anyone who wanted to split the cost?
Thanks for any insight to this program.

Hi we are half members and last year did the pick up option but this year have the produce delivered. A wonderful service. Yesterday I received a large tomato, pint of cherry tomatoes, a large zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, greens, two paper bags of peaches and a basil plant on my front porch. This is one week's worth of a half members share. Very plentiful I think.

I would be interested in splitting next year with you, however. We have received maybe 6 deliveries this year.

I recommend the service. And the member's day at the farm was really fun too!

I also am a member. I could go on and on about but the pros but since most of them were listed above I won't. The only con we have is that you get tons of collared greens and kale. There are only so many way to cook them and it gets kinda dull pretty quick with kale and greens.

    j3mom and others--

We did belong to Great Country Farms before we bought our 25 acres and built our home several years ago. Kate and her family are also friends of ours and a great place for PYO (Pick Your Own) and the CSA. If you want other information on CSA(s)--search under my thread "Food Preservation, CSA(s), ..." under the Area Restaurants forum for other insight on CSA(s).

There are all types of cooperatives and CSA(s). Even ones that we know of that the local Cooperative Extension Office does not publish in its Loudoun County Farm Tourist Guide. If you also wish information on meats, breads, etc. info on CSA(s)--please do not hesitate to ask me or PM me.

Tons of ways to avoid the "3000 mile diet and to eat locally within 150 miles"--locally farms and organic local foods.
I also have a resource list of books, links, web sites, and other helpful information which is informative. Where you can glass-bottled milk, dairy products, artisan cheeses, artisan breads, etc.

If you "foodies" wishes recipes on how to use up Summer's bounties of veggies and produce--just PM or ask and I will respond gladly.

    Good eats--

    Foodie

Okay, I'll be the party pooper. I was a member last year and got delivery. I thought it was only so-so at best and not worth the money. For half the price I could have gone to a local farmers market every week and bought better quality local produce in the types and quantities I wanted. Love the farm, though!
