This just got sent out over the LCSO alert system.

Loudoun County, Virginia - The Loudoun Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of gunfire in the Ashburn Village community Tuesday night.

The Sheriff’s Office received a third party report around 8:45 PM of possible gunfire in the 44300 block of Tillman Terrace. Two juveniles reported seeing several subjects near the playground of the Ashburn Meadows apartment complex. The juveniles told authorities one of the subjects pulled out a firearm and discharged it into the air.

A perimeter was established and an aerial search was conducted the Fairfax County Police Department helicopter. No suspects were located. Deputies conducted a door-to-door canvass to try and find the possible victims or witnesses. It is unclear at this time if a firearm was actually discharged.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether the incident may be connected to a mob assault that occurred in the same apartment complex last week. On September 21st two Ashburn teenagers were injured during an assault. Around midnight, the two victims, ages 16 and 19, were in the parking lot of the Ashburn Meadows apartment complex located in the 21000 block of Lowry Park Terrace when they were assaulted by several suspects. The assault began after some of the suspects damaged the rear windows of six vehicles in the parking lot. The victims received injuries when they were struck with blunt objects. The victims fled the scene and ran to a nearby apartment where one of the suspects discharged a firearm into the door of the residence. No one was injured by the gunshot.

Several suspects were seen fleeing the area. The two teen victims were taken to the Lansdowne Campus of INOVA Loudoun Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475. If the caller wishes to remain anonymous they are asked to contact Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919.

In Sterling and Leesburg they're called "gangs". In the Ashburn and Landsdowne area we prefer to use the more classier term "mob".

My guess is -- "mob" means a group of unruly yout's causing trouble, a "gang" is an organized "mob". You know, with a leader, ranks, signs, outfits, etc. that we typically think of when we think "gang."

Whatever it is called (mob, gang, etc.), these parents need to control their kids. If these kids were taught some common sense, it would not be a problem.

This pretty much sums it up. Their parents suck.

That's about what I thought, too, until I read a different article about it stating that the teenagers were inside an apartment until they heard the suspects breaking car windows. Still, midnight is a bit late and where were the parents?

You need a license to drive a car....
You need a license to catch a fish...
You need a license to own a dog....
You need a license to run a restaurant....

Why do you not need a license to be a parent?

    Kaosdad and others--

Great post, I agree. The mother duck could be my brood and our family.:)

Unfortunately, in today's society, most (not all) parents even need a "Learner's Permit" before they get their "license" to parent. :(

It would seem that their parents were not around. Even when we were teenagers (hubby and I) with our large families, our parents knew where we were and kept in contact with us. They did not use cell phones, text messaging, etc. Although, today you do need some assistance and should use phones if needed. If parents had to pass a class on parenting today, some parents would fail. Look at Britney Spears. Of course, most of today's parents do keep "track" of their kids if they are not "running" after other pursuits.

    Just my $.02.

    Have a good day--

Just who defines what would be on this so-called parenting test?

Parenting styles can differ 180 degrees and in alot of cases both sides could be right.

And not to specifically pick on Play Drums post, but kids out at midnight do not necessarily make parents "suck".

Why are some so quick to blame parents for everything a kid does wrong?????????

Dunno - apple, tree, you know, that sort of thing.

Actually; I have SEEN the corrolation with my own four eyes (the two in back of my head count). Kids whose parents are involved in their Scouting adventure are a bazillion times more likely to earn Eagle/Gold/Ranger than ones whose parents are NOT involved. Those kids usualy drop out, hang out in parking lots and shoot at people or go into politics.

The same with parenting - it's the kids that have involved parents (Where ya goin'? Who ya hangin' with? What time ya gonna be home? Oh, and by the way, I'll rifle your room while you're gone....) that stay out of trouble and grow up to be g33ks.

Kaosdad, great point. If people are not adult enough to actually serve as parents and control their kids, they should not have them. It's that simple.

One question should be, "Do you let your kids stay out after midnight, carry guns, and commit violent crimes?" If the answer is, "Yes," I don't think it is a good idea to permit further procreation. Does that seem reasonable?

Control??? You ARE a closet Republican!

Thought we were suppose to TEACH our children.

In addition, isn't learning from one's mistakes also valuable life lesson?

Sounds to me like you want Stepford children Gryphon.

Back to the original subject. Last night in a public forum Sheriff Simpson noted they have not been able to find any evidence that gun shots were fired. He did confirm there was an incident that happened. Sounded like a girlfriend boyfriend scorned thing.

even good kids make bad decisions- that's the whole point behind being IMMATURE. 1 offense does not a bad parent- or bad KID for matter- make. repeat offenders are a different story

I'm not really a closet anything. You can tell from my opinions, I like to let people know what I think and what I am about.

The point of my comments earlier is that, if parents are letting their kids run around the neighborhood at midnight, carry guns, and beat up other kids, I think they need to be held accountable.
