I'm trying to install a CD Burner into my Dell Desktop that currently only has a DVD/CD ROM drive. I ordered and received a CD Burner from NewEgg.com, but it didn't come with any cables. Where can I get a 4-pole power cable and an IDE cable to complete the installation process. I know how to open my desktop, and can add/replace memory, but is this project beyond my scope of know-how?
And I haven't even figured out the master/slave deal either, does this connect into the existing CD ROM drive?
    Thanks for any "tech support".

Are you replacing the current drive or adding to it?

If adding to it the cable that does from the current drive to the motherboard SHOULD have a second connector, does it?

The power cable running to your current drive SHOULD also have a second power connector, or there may be more bundled up & ticked away, are there?

If I have just boggled your mind, let me know, I'm certain that I, or Mr. Linux can have this done for you in a jiffy.

I'm adding this drive into a blank slot, I'll look inside to see if it has what you were talking about, I suppose I should have done that before posting.

OK I'm looking inside the desktop, and I'm thinking I may have the wrong type of CD Burner. My existing CD/DVD ROM drive doesn't have that gray ribbon type of cable, it has an orange thin little cord that I can't figure out how it would attach to this drive I just bought.

OH COOL! You've got a SATA attached drive!

So, follow that Orange cable to the motherboard and see if you have any other open SATA connectors.

The cable should look like this:

The problem is the back of my new drive doesn't have that type of connector, or anywhere to plug it in to.

OK, does your motherboard have a connector that looks like this:

Yes, I have an open one of those connections, just like the empty one in your picture.

Hold on.... let me run down to the Basement Of Doom..... I think I can hook you up.

Check on an empty power plug while I'm gone.

The existing DVD drive has another power cable attached to it, but its not long enough to attach to my new drive. Does that sound right?

Yeah, but it might reach. You have no others open?

If not, I might have a spare power "Y" cable that might give a bit more room. Unfortunately, I am out of town till Friday, but its an option if you need it.
