Has anyone noticed a high-pitched squeal coming from Hillside Elementary? I live about a ¼ of a mile away and have heard it on an off for the past 3 years. (Usually only at night when all else is quite.) I am pretty sure it is coming from Hillside (at times it is very loud as I jog by in the morning). It sounds like it might be some kind of fan noise. It is much louder in the winter, but last night it was noticeable.

My wife cannot hear it. Maybe it is just me. Let me know if I need to see a doctor or call someone at Hillside.

    Thanks

Your wife doesn't hear it .. how about your neighbors ?? I suspect its the HVAC if nothing else ... of course, there are those weird lights that appear on the ballfield .... [:p]

its the HVAC units at the school. Its loud, its constant.. its incredibly annoying. Its loud enough that I hear it inside my house with all doors and windows closed.

I don't know the EPA limits on noise, but I've thought about for ages taking a soundmeter home and measuring it.

Neil is right it is the HVAC system. It was much worse about 3 years ago and it does seem to be worse at night when it is quiet. 3 years ago we had the county involved and they required that a gate be built around the thing it has improved but it is still not gone. I know from where we live it is not as noticable. Talk to your neighbors and if they are hearing it too then call the county and they can send someone out to check the sound levels again maybe something has changed that calls for new regulations

Could it be the HVAC coming from the house off Chickakoan? I've noticed on my evening walks that a house not too far from Hillside has a unit that's really loud--I can hear that unit a block away.
